Full Job Description
The Ruhlin Company seeks to hire an Assistant Chief Estimator out of our Sharon Center office.

Summary: Plan,coordinate, and oversee estimating assignments delegated by the Chief Estimator,providing technical expertise and administrative leadership to ensureobjectives are achieved. Manage the bid day process to develop the lowest completeand competitive bid while maintaining accuracy and compliance. Upon award ofsuccessful bids, oversee project budget set-up, material procurement, and subcontractnegotiations.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and strengthen high-performing relationships with current subcontractors and vendors, while proactively identifying and cultivating new, innovative partnerships that enhance our competitive positioning and deliver measurable advantage in bid opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the IT Department to develop and maintain job cost data and historical production information to support accurate estimating and future bidding efforts.
  • Ensure all safety requirements and any special project restrictions are identified, documented, and considered during the estimating process.
  • Ensure the bid schedule, safety requirements, and project risks are thoroughly reviewed and understood for all bids.
  • Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to quotation; while maintaining appropriate pricing margins.
  • Participate in bid review meetings with owners and owner's representatives as needed.
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to assigned estimating team members to ensure work is completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Assist in preparing studies, materials, and construction methods; develop recommendations and cost estimates to meet client and management requirements.
  • Participate in project hand-off meetings.
  • Utilize bidding data base and track competitor backlogs.
  • Visit project sites to observe construction methods.
  • Lead mandatory pre-bid project visits to investigate utilities, safety concerns, and to assess existing site conditions with the bid team to identify cost impacts.
  • Attend monthly margin analysis meetings as available to review project status.
  • Utilize historical cost values using HeavyBid.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Estimator.

Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction estimating, estimating strategies and techniques, and construction contracts; experience with industrial and commercial building construction preferred.
  • Advanced math and computer skills.
  • Outstanding time management and organization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and produce positive results through sound, methodical guidance.
  • Skilled at managing multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft 365, HCSS Heavy Bid, and other construction-related software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Team focused mindset with the ability to build strong working relationships.
