Description of DutiesUnder direct but not constant supervision, perform or assist in performing special and standard chemical analyses and experiments on oil, water, coal, and other materials; determine the need for appropriate chemical treatment of waters; and perform other related work as required. Operate and troubleshoot water production equipment such as clarifiers, filters, ultrafiltration units, reverse osmosis units, and demineralizers. Operate and maintain online analytical instrumentation associated with feedwater and boiler water analysis. Troubleshoot issues pertaining to abnormal feedwater and boiler water chemistry.
Position RequirementsEducation: B.S. or B.A. degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university required. Applicants meeting the prerequisite chemistry curriculum below may also be considered.
College Algebra - 3 semester hours
General Chemistry I - 4 semester hours
General Chemistry II with Qualitative Analysis - 4 semester hours
Organic Chemistry - 3 semester hours
Quantitative Analysis - 3 semester hours
Instrumental Analysis - 3 semester hours
Experience: Previous experience in water treatment and power plant chemistry is preferred; however, candidates without this experience will be considered. Proficiency with PC-based spreadsheets, graphics, word processing, and database software is desirable.
Other Requirements: - Successful candidate will be required to join Operating Engineers Local 148.
- Successful candidate will be required to enter and successfully complete the company training program (approximately one year in length).
- Must maintain a 70% grade average during each session of the training program. Failure to maintain this average may result in disqualification from the position.
- Applicant must pass the EEI TECH test.
- Applicant must be able to meet the essential functions of the Chemical Tester classification with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Applicant must demonstrate normal color vision.
- Must be able to operate an automobile.
- Must be able to wear a respirator.
- Excellent analytical, communication, human relations, leadership, and customer service skills required.
- Must be able to multi-task in a laboratory environment.
Working Conditions:- Work performed in laboratory settings, energy centers, power plant environments, and outdoor locations.
- Exposure to dust, fumes, hazardous chemicals, and heat.
Hourly Pay:Grade Step OA 052 Step 1 of 2 - 53.01 USD
Grade Step OA 052 Step 2 of 2 (Top Step) - 53.76 USD
