Description

The College of Nursing is seeking an Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Instruction. This position serves as principal liaison for faculty matters with the Dean, CON leadership (primarily the other Associate Deans), and the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost. The Associate Dean also serves as the Dean's representative to the Campus Faculty Affairs Advisory Board. The Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs is responsible for oversight of faculty affairs issues that include, but are not limited to, faculty on-boarding, professional development, and implementation of curriculum.

Appointment:

  • The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of the College of Nursing.
  • This position carries approximately 80% administrative release time; release time is negotiated annually with the Dean, based on the demands of the role and needs of the OU CON.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Faculty Recruitment and Records

a. In conjunction with CON-HR; maintain records of faculty ranks, titles, FTE, etc.

b. Represent CON leadership and faculty on appropriate internal and external committees

c. Supervise the appropriate staff and directors.

d. Oversee strategic planning; budget and program Faculty Affairs professional development and continuing education.

e. Represent the CON both within OU and externally at conferences on faculty topics in higher education.

f. Support strategic planning and workforce analysis using faculty data trends in collaboration with chairs

g. Generate reports related to clinical compliance for faculty (e.g., Complio)

2. Faculty Development and Mentoring

a. Represent CON leadership and faculty on appropriate internal and external committees

b. Develop strategic plan for faculty affairs and continuing professional development in alignment with CON and OU Health Campus strategic plans in collaboration with Department Chairs

c. Oversee implementation of innovative programs for faculty recruitment, orientation, advancement, and career development

d. Develop and facilitate leadership training programs for new CON leaders

e. Develop the Academy of Teaching Scholars (ATS) and oversee the program management of the ATS

f. Identify and implement best practices in faculty and Health Professions Educator onboarding and development

g. Assist new faculty in navigating campus resources related to teaching and learning

h. Develop and facilitate a 360 Peer Review Process for Teaching

3. Coordination and Communication

a. Oversee the directors in their role managing the coordinators (Experience and Course) in the college.

b. Represent the college on institutional faculty affairs committees

c. Prepare reports and dashboards for leadership, accreditation, and external reviews

d. Prepares an annual report outlining faculty development programs and disseminates to Dean and Chairs.

Qualifications

Licensure:

  • Must be eligible for or hold current registered nurse license for the State of Oklahoma


Education:

  • Graduate degree in Nursing required. Must be terminally prepared


Experience:

  • 3 years of higher education teaching
  • 5 years progressive administration experience in higher education
  • Tenure eligible at the rank of Associate or Full professor

  • Demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in building strong working relationships with a collaborative leadership style
  • Enjoys interacting with people and can easily connect with faculty and staff in the College and University, across disciplines, and among external entities in the community
  • Evidence of successful collaborations with community partners and faculty teams in an academic setting, effective communication skills, knowledge of nursing academic curricula and programs, plan and conduct effective meetings, and evidence of leadership ability
  • Demonstrated ability to be engaging and persuasive, strong teamwork skills, politically astute, diplomatic, and able to manage by influence
  • Flexible and capable of responding to multiple demands in a timely manner
  • Ability to exercise astute judgment in all matters related to academic affairs
  • Proficient with MS Office applications


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A record of scholarship, extramural funding preferred
