Description

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine at the University of Washington has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time fellowship-trained candidate for a faculty position to specialize in foot and ankle surgery, including amputation surgery. This position will be based at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The practice offers opportunities for the cultivation of a broad and busy practice in elective and traumatic foot and ankle surgery as part of the internationally renowned Sigvard T. Hansen, Jr., MD, Foot and Ankle Institute at Harborview Medical Center. Responsibilities will include resident and fellow education and medical student teaching. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to develop a robust program in clinical, education methodologies or basic science research. The successful candidate will be expected to maintin a high level of professionalism and academic acheivement and provide clinical care encompassing a broad spectrum of foot and ankle surgery.

The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Full Professor rank, depending upon qualifications, all without tenure (WOT). The majority of School of Medicine faculty hired in the professorial track are hired under the WOT designation. Faculty appointed WOT have the same rights, responsibilities and obligations as tenure-track and tenured faculty members at those ranks. However, faculty appointed as WOT do not hold tenure because all or part of their annual University-administered salary is derived from sources other than regularly appropriated stated funds This position has a flexible start date in 2026. Assistant Professors (WOT) are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Associate and full Professors (WOT) hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

Salary

The base salary range for this position will be: $20,000-$44,000 month ($240,000-$528,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other Compensation

In addition to base salary mentioned above, other compensation associated with this position will include Monthly Additional Compensation (MAC) and Semi-Annual Additional Compensation (SAAC) through the UW Physicians practice plan.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent), be board certified (or board eligible) in orthopaedic surgery, possess or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Washington and have completed a foot & ankle fellowship (or foreign equivalent). In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
