Summary
This recruitment is open to internal (King County) FBOD employees only. This role is expected to last at least 6 months.

King County's Finance and Business Operations Division, Procurement & Payables section, is seeking a self-motivated SDA/TLT Assistant Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will ensure refunds are accurately and appropriately applied prior to year-end, while applying King County policies and procedures to maintain proper accounting treatment for all refunds. We are looking for an organized, detail-oriented team player who can hit the ground running and contribute to reliable, compliant financial operations.

Scope of Job Duties: To be considered for this opportunity, you must at a minimum, demonstrate knowledge, skill and ability to:
  • Research refund checks to determine the reason for issuance and appropriate accounting.
  • Review vendor, payment and accounting records to verify accuracy.
  • Reconcile refund checks against accounting records, payment histories, invoices and transaction documentation.
  • Investigate discrepancies between refund amounts and accounting system balances.
  • Coordinate with other agencies/departments to resolve discrepancies.
  • Update accounting system and tracking spreadsheets with refund status and details.
  • Prepare reconciliation reports and summaries for management.
  • Ensure refund transactions comply with internal policies and accounting procedures.
  • Monitor refund activity and follow up on unresolved items within established deadlines.
  • Handle confidential financial and vendor information appropriately.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Accounts Payable experience in accounting and/or finance which involves working in a high-volume processing environment
  • Experience using an automated financial management system, Oracle or SAP, preferably Oracle
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounts payable related policies, as well as county, state and federal regulations
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, writing and customer service skills
  • Intermediate level of technology proficiency using MS Office Productivity tools in your daily work
  • Ability to manage your time and adapt to changing priorities, work on multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, meet quick deadlines, and produce timely and quality work products.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or a related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience using Oracle EBS
  • Experience with LEAN processes and principles
  • Experience with SharePoint, MS Teams and other collaborative online tools

Position Information:
  • Work Site Details: The team works in a hybrid model, with days in the office as well as telecommuting. The ratio of remote to onsite work will be dependent on business needs and is subject to change. The primary onsite location is King Street Center, 201 S. Jackson, Seattle, Washington 98104.   • Location Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
  • Work Schedule: This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and therefore is overtime eligible. Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday, comprising a 40-hour workweek; normally 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Union Representation: This position is Teamsters 117 represented.

The individual selected for this opportunity will join an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work in our department's hybrid environment. Employees will be provided with a county-issued laptop and must maintain a home workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work. Employees will need to be available and responsive during scheduled work hours and follow FBOD's hybrid/remote guidelines that include on-camera participation during virtual video meetings.
