Full Job Description
About the role

As the Assembly Tech Lead at Droyd, you'll lead day-to-day assembly execution for robotic hardware builds. You'll help answer questions, unblock technicians, maintain build quality, and make sure the team is moving efficiently to ensure on-time and consistent delivery.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who wants ownership, moves quickly, and takes pride in getting hardware built right.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We're an in-person company. We build faster that way.
In this role, you'll
  • Lead day-to-day assembly work for robot builds and subassemblies.
  • Coordinate closely with engineers and shop staff on changing designs, R&D priorities, and optimization processes.
  • Manage production documentation, including product routings, drawing packets, and the interpretation of technical specifications for assembly technicians.
  • Identify workflow bottlenecks and participate in continuous improvement activities to optimize assembly processes.
  • Support and unblock assembly technicians during builds, providing technical guidance and troubleshooting operator issues.
  • Independently set up, operate, troubleshoot, and dismantle a broad range of manufacturing and bench-top R&D equipment.
  • Execute failure analysis and root cause analysis experiments for production units, initiating technical investigations when process or component deviations occur.
  • Provide technical on-the-job training and facilitate standard operating procedure (SOP) training for the team.
  • Step into hands-on build work whenever needed to maintain assembly quality, consistency, and pace.
We're looking for someone who
  • Has 3+ years of experience in mechanical or electromechanical assembly, including 1+ years in a leadership or tech lead role.
  • Possesses strong hands-on assembly experience with complex mechanical, electrical, or robotic systems.
  • Can lead by doing, demonstrate strong prioritization skills, and help others work effectively.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills, acting as a clear technical bridge between technicians and engineers.
  • Is highly organized and detail-oriented with an independent judgment and a strong bias-to-action.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, high-ownership hardware environment where objectives must be met with minimal supervision.
Nice to have
  • A 2-year Engineering or Technical degree, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on aerospace/robotics experience.
  • Experience in robotics, automotive, aerospace, Formula SAE, or fast-paced hardware startups.
  • Experience with manufacturing process development, line layout, or rewriting complex build documentation.
