Job Summary
The Asphalt Process Excellence Manager is responsible for leading their team in driving multi-plant process excellence across the asphalt yards, both oxidizing and non-oxidizing facilities. This leadership role provides technical process support across manufacturing and supply chain to drive improvements in safety, efficiencies, productivity, and costs of our internal and external third-party oxidation operations. The Asphalt Process Excellence Manager works closely with Corporate Engineering peers, Operations leadership, Plant personnel, R&D, Quality Assurance, Third-Party Oxidizers, and Supply Chain.

Essential Duties
  • Leads the team to define, document, and implement Standards and Best Known Practices for their areas of responsibility. Verifies sharing and deployment at the plants, celebrates successes, and builds the AODocs library for Engineering Standards and Standard Engineering Procedures.
  • Drives participation and provides direction within the Communities of Practice to utilize talent across the network and lead troubleshooting efforts, sharing of knowledge, and communication between plants to improve performance.
  • Leads their team in the identification and execution of cost savings and efficiency improvement opportunities by benchmarking with plants and utilizing the network for improvement. Prioritizes efforts to reduce process variation, downtime, scrap, and costs.
  • Designated point of contact for internal and external process and equipment experts to identify standard instrumentation and equipment, and establish operational and maintenance standards for the plant systems.
  • Collaborates with Corporate teams and Plants to drive the adoption of new technology solutions
  • Participate in HAZOP initiatives and identify safety improvement opportunities during plant visits. Lead process changes resulting from this analysis.
  • Provide expertise, assign team leads, and utilize the CoP to address plant quality issues or large claims
  • Implement systematic approaches in structured problem solving and process improvement tools (such as SPC, Process Building Blocks, Centerlining, Fishbone Diagrams, KT, 5-whys, A3, MVT, data analysis, etc.).
  • Sets priorities for the team using plant metrics and data analytics to guide prioritization and ensure that resources are used effectively.
  • Leads team and plants through change management and provides leadership through process changes to foster a culture of continuous improvement
  • Coach and mentor technical and process teams to establish bench strength within the network
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of demonstrated experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 5+ years supporting process engineering at multiple locations.
  • Supervisory experience or project management lead experience.
  • Experience in continuous web machine operation or design.
  • Knowledge of the roofing process and ASTM Roofing Codes .
  • Advanced demonstrated communications skills; written, verbal, and listening skills

  • Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail - able to plan, execute, and control multiple tasks simultaneously

Qualifications Preferred
  • Experience in asphalt operations, refinery, or chemical process manufacturing.


Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings
  • Advanced proficiency in using root cause analysis to troubleshoot and solve problems
  • Advanced ability to translate technical data into a format/language suitable for personnel
  • Advanced knowledge of manufacturing analysis tools, such as statistical analysis/statistical process control (SPC), process capability studies, lean manufacturing, Kepner Tregoe, and/or Design of Experiments (DOE)
  • Advanced experience with standard Manufacturing concepts, practices & procedures
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and/or G-Suite

Base salary and/or rate of pay ranges listed are exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Individual compensation offers will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant candidate experience and skill, education, and/or qualifications.

Base Salary Range: $144,022-$184,028
