AWS DevOps Engineer - ECS/ECR Container Image Cleanup, JFrog Registry Migration & CI/CD Modernization
Looking for a hands-on AWS DevOps Engineer to support container image discovery, cleanup, validation, migrationand pipeline repointing across AWS ECS/ECR-based workloads. The role will rationalize existing Docker / Container images, migrate approved images to JFrog Artifactory/JFrog Container Registry as per Enterprise standards and work with DevOps, Cloud Platform, Security and APP teams to update ECS task definitions, deployment pipelines, AWS credentials, and registry integrations. Should be able to assist existing CI/CD Pipelines getting migrated or reconfigured into Harness, requiring hands-on coordination across AWS, JFrog, and CI/CD toolchains.
Key Responsibilities
§ Discover and inventory container images across AWS ECS workloads, AWS ECR repositories, accounts, environments, clusters, services, and task definitions.
§ Assess image usage, last-pull details, tags, digests, ownership, vulnerabilities & deployment dependencies to identify active, obsolete, duplicate, orphaned, and non-compliant images.
§ Define and execute AWS-focused image cleanup and rationalization activities using approved retention, tagging, lifecycle, compliance, and governance standards.
§ Migrate approved Docker/ECS container images from AWS ECR or current registries to JFrog Artifactory / JFrog Container Registry following agreed repository, naming, tagging, promotion/access-control standards.
§ Update ECS task definitions, services, deployment scripts, environment variables, pipeline variables and image references to point to the approved JFrog registry locations.
§ Work with DevOps/APP teams to repoint CI/CD pipelines, build jobs, deployment jobs and release workflows to newly migrated JFrog registries, including pipelines that may be moved or reconfigured in Harness.
§ Support migration or recreation of selected CI/CD pipelines in Harness, including AWS connectors, artifact sources, registry credentials, pipeline stages, variables, secrets, approvals, rollback steps and deployment validations
§ Configure and validate secure AWS integrations including IAM roles/policies, cross-account access, Secrets Manager or approved vault integrations, service connections, and least-privilege image pull/push access.
§ Coordinate validation of image pulls, image scans, ECS deployments, rollback scenarios, pipeline execution, CloudWatch logs/metrics, and environment readiness across non-production and production environments.
§ Collaborate with cloud security teams to enforce image scanning, approved base-image usage, vulnerability remediation, policy-as-code controls, and prevention of unapproved public registry usage.
§ Document AWS account/repository mappings, ECS service impact, migration steps, cleanup decisions, pipeline changes, rollback procedures, runbooks, and handover instructions.
§ Support issue resolution during migration, including image tagging conflicts, ECR/JFrog connectivity issues, IAM permission failures, Harness/Jenkins pipeline failures, ECS deployment errors, and registry authentication issues.
Required Skills and Experience
§ Strong hands-on experience with AWS ECS, ECS clusters, services, task definitions, task execution roles, service discovery, d eployment models, and containerized workload operations.
§ Practical experience with AWS ECR, Docker images, image tagging strategies, image cleanup, registry lifecycle policies, cross-account repository access, and image promotion practices.
§ Experience migrating or repointing container images between AWS ECR, JFrog Artifactory, JFrog Container Registry, or similar enterprise registries.
§ Good understanding of AWS IAM, AWS Organizations/SCPs, Secrets Manager, KMS, VPC networking, security groups, private endpoints, and secure image pull/push configurations.
§ Hands-on experience updating CI/CD pipeline configurations, ECS task definitions, deployment manifests, build scripts, environment variables, and artifact references to point to new registry endpoints.
§ Good understanding of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, JFrog Pipelines, or Harness, with experience integrating AWS and container registry workflows.
§ Experience configuring Harness pipelines, AWS connectors, delegates, secrets, artifact sources, environment mappings, deployment stages, approval gates, and rollback controls is preferred.
§ Experience with AWS CLI, Docker CLI, JFrog CLI, shell scripting, registry APIs, automation scripts, and troubleshooting across AWS and CI/CD environments.
§ Understanding of container security scanning, JFrog Xray, AWS Inspector or equivalent tools, vulnerability remediation coordination, approved base-image usage, and DevSecOps controls.
§ Working knowledge of Terraform, CloudFormation, or IaC-based deployment patterns for AWS infrastructure and pipeline integration is desirable.
§ Ability to work with cloud platform, DevOps, security, and application teams to manage migration waves, dependencies, cutovers, validations, and production readiness.
Generic expectations, If any

• Experience supporting production ECS workloads and managing release or deployment pipelines in AWS multi-account environments.
• Exposure to JFrog Xray, artifact promotion, image retention policies, repository cleanup automation, and container supply chain governance.
• Knowledge of Amazon EKS, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CodeBuild/CodePipeline, or broader cloud-native deployment practices.
• Experience with AWS Well-Architected principles, DevSecOps governance, policy-as-code, OPA, Snyk, Wiz, Checkov, tfsec, or similar controls is preferred.
