Responsibilities

Full Job Description
Employment type: Permanent, full-time, 1 year contract renewal cycle.
Salary: $75,000 to $90,000 (dependent on experience).
Start date: 1 September 2026, with an expectation to attend orientation during the final week of August.

The school now has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Art Teacher to join our fantastic team.

About the Role:

York Prep School is seeking an experienced Art Teacher to join our team. You will be responsible for teaching visual arts to students in grades 6-12, ideally with a focus on drawing and painting, while taking on faculty duties as assigned. You will plan and deliver a range of studio art courses that encourage creativity, technical skill, and artistic confidence. The Art Teacher will report to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for STEAM and collaborate with the Department Chair as needed.

You hold a bachelor's degree in Visual Arts, Art Education, or a related field (with an advanced degree preferred) and have experience designing engaging, differentiated instruction to support diverse learners, including students with language-based learning differences. You are passionate about working with middle and high school students and fostering creative expression in a structured, supportive classroom environment. The successful candidate demonstrates effective classroom management, strong communication skills, and a commitment to best practices in teaching, including the use of educational technology.
