The Role:

You will also be responsible for a large group of skilled trades maintenance group leaders and skilled trades team members. You will hold responsibility over these skilled trades employees, including the work involves a considerable amount of creativity and perception and a high level of discernment in making decisions. Work is of a technical nature using independent judgment within the limits of GMS; focusing on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). Responsible for training others.

What You'll Do: (Responsibilities):

A leader of skilled trades team with members who possess diverse skill sets and have similar overall objectives. Typically leads other individual contributors and at times leads other people leaders.

  • Sets strategy and implements solutions to problems and sets schedule and quality requirements.


  • Complies with the terms of local and national labor agreements.


  • Implements divisional and corporate policies, safety and good housekeeping practices .


  • Frequent collaboration with others outside of the work group.


  • Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project and proven ability to manage multiple and significantly complex projects and assignments with the highest level of autonomy and accountability for results.


  • Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others.


  • Validated ability in project management skills and ability to teach others and shown desire and ability to manage/coach performance of direct reports.


  • Responsible for creating budgets and forecasts within assigned area.


  • Communicates with plant and staffs.


  • Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material and equipment.


  • Leads in the selection of new employees. Trains, develops and evaluates employees.


  • Obtains a deep knowledge and ability to implement GMS principles.

  • Has advanced knowledge and broad experience in Skilled Trades, with the ability to identify and leverage experts in different specialized fields.


  • Often owns a distinct business area within the function. Serves as a resource to their team for technical expertise, interaction with other teams and departments, and company policies and processes. Guides direct reports and their teams on scoping out complex problems and developing creative and innovative solutions to the issues.


  • Drives change and develops new policies and processes in support of functional and company strategies.


  • Exercises independent judgement and influence on key technical decisions within their area(s). Develops operational plans and establishes objectives for the team, allocates resources and delegates assignments.


COMPLEXITY

  • Translates strategies into clear direction for their team. Reprioritizing and reallocating resources as appropriate based on changing business needs. Offers direction to subordinates in accordance with established company policies.


  • Enforces company policies that directly impact subordinate employees. Resolves competing demands, sensitive situations, and conflicts within their organization and/or with other teams.


  • Develops plans for people resources and ensures that team members are continuing to grow their skills and competencies. Has continued career discussions with their team and knows where to allocate resources based on unique strengths of everyone on the team.

Your Skills & Abilities: (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience


  • 7 Years of experience in a manufacturing environment , with experience in skilled trades


  • Experience with unions or UAW


  • 5 years of experience in a people leader role


  • Ability to work / rotate through all 3 shifts as needed


  • Ability to work over-time, weekends, holidays, etc. as needed

  • Master's Degree in Engineering
