Position SummaryThe Area Director is responsible for the overall management, oversight, and operation of 5-7 specialized residential homes serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health needs, and/or other specialized care requirements. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality, person-centered services while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory, licensing, accreditation, and funding requirements.
The Area Director provides leadership and support to home managers and direct care staff, oversees resident care and safety, manages staffing and operational concerns, and serves as a liaison between the organization, residents, guardians, Community Mental Health (CMH), licensing representatives, and other stakeholders.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesRegulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance- Ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable:
- CARF standards
- State licensing regulations
- HCBS (Home and Community-Based Services) requirements
- Community Mental Health (CMH) requirements
- Medicaid regulations
- Organizational policies and procedures
- Participate in internal and external audits, surveys, and inspections.
- Develop and implement corrective action plans when necessary.
- Maintain readiness for licensing, accreditation, and payer reviews.
Resident Care & Service Delivery- Ensure the provision of quality, person-centered care and services.
- Monitor resident health, safety, rights, and overall well-being.
- Complete required monthly face-to-face contacts with residents.
- Review incidents, accidents, and medication errors and ensure appropriate follow-up.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support resident outcomes.
- Assist with admissions, discharges, and transitions of care.
- Ensure implementation of individual plans of service and behavioral support plans.
Medication Management- Oversee medication administration practices and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor medication documentation, storage, ordering, and administration procedures.
- Investigate medication-related concerns and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Provide guidance and support to managers and direct care staff regarding medication protocols.
Staff Leadership & Workforce Management- Supervise and support home managers and direct care staff.
- Conduct regular site visits and staff meetings.
- Complete monthly contacts with staff members within assigned homes.
- Assist with recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Address staffing concerns, employee relations issues, and disciplinary matters.
- Ensure adequate staffing coverage and participate in on-call responsibilities.
- Cover shifts as needed to ensure continuity of care and operational stability.
Health & Safety- Maintain safe, clean, and compliant residential environments.
- Ensure completion of required safety drills, inspections, and environmental reviews.
- Monitor infection control practices and emergency preparedness procedures.
- Investigate and respond to health and safety concerns.
Operational Management- Oversee daily operations of assigned residential homes.
- Monitor budgets, purchasing, and resource utilization.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation and recordkeeping.
- Collaborate with organizational leadership to achieve operational and strategic goals.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for guardians, case managers, licensing personnel, CMH representatives, and community partners.
