The Architect for the Optum De identified Data Workspace (ODDW) is responsible for leading the architecture, modernization, and evolution of a secure, compliance first analytics platform that enables internal and external users to access and analyze Optum's de identified real world data assets.
This role provides end to end solution and platform architecture leadership across ODDW modernization initiatives, external data access enablement, platform scalability, security, and cost efficiency, while ensuring alignment with Optum enterprise architecture and compliance standards.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:- Lead architecture design for the ODDW platform, including data access layers, analytics environments, portals, and supporting services
- Define target state architecture to support scalable, modular, and cost efficient de identified data access
- Drive architectural decisions for single tenant secure workspaces, analytics tooling, and client project isolation
- Centralized data lake access to reduce data duplication and ingestion cost
- Self service onboarding of artifacts and analytics tools
- Zero downtime deployments and automated configuration changes
- Improve platform flexibility to reduce custom engineering effort for new data products and clients
- Define secure patterns for external client access to de identified datasets via ODDW
- Architect ingress/egress mechanisms with built in compliance review and approval workflows
- Support multiple data access methods while aligning to emerging enterprise standards for external data access
- Ensure platform architecture adheres to de identification, privacy, and regulatory requirements
- Partner with security, privacy, and risk teams to support threat modeling, access controls, audit logging, and identity integration
- Maintain compliance first architecture while balancing usability, performance, and cost
- Provide architectural guidance to engineering teams throughout design and implementation
- Communicate architectural vision, trade offs, and risks to product, engineering, and leadership stakeholders
- Influence decisions across teams without direct authority

Required Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience
- 8+ years software engineering experience
- 5+ years cloud architecture experience
- 3+ years senior level technical contributor owning architecture decisions across multiple teams or initiative
- 2+ years AI Architecture background

- Proven solid written and verbal skills

The salary for this role will range from $112,700 - $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
