Job Title: Technical Value Management (TVM) Engineer
Location: Dearborn, MI (Hybrid)
Job Type: W2 Contract
Duration: 1-Year Ongoing Contract
Expected Hours per Week: 40 hours per week
Summary We are seeking a Technical Value Management (TVM) Engineer to support cost-reduction initiatives across Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) powertrain systems for a leading automotive manufacturer. This role combines engineering expertise, value engineering, project coordination, and data analysis to identify, evaluate, and implement cost-saving opportunities while maintaining product quality, performance, durability, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have experience working within automotive product development environments and driving engineering changes from concept through implementation.
Responsibilities - Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities across ICE powertrain systems
- Evaluate design, material, manufacturing, and supplier cost reduction opportunities
- Develop business cases and technical justifications for engineering changes
- Coordinate activities across engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, finance, suppliers, and program teams
- Support annual cost reduction and value engineering objectives
- Lead cross-functional meetings and drive action item completion
- Maintain implementation schedules, workplans, risk assessments, and savings forecasts
- Analyze engineering and cost data to support decision-making and project execution
- Prepare leadership presentations, implementation summaries, and status reports
- Track savings realization and support financial validation efforts
- Drive continuous improvement and value engineering best practices
- Manage multiple cost optimization initiatives across vehicle and powertrain programs
Education/Experience Required - Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- 3+ years of automotive engineering experience
- Experience supporting cost reduction, value engineering, product optimization, or continuous improvement initiatives
- Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams
- Strong project coordination and execution skills
- Experience analyzing engineering and cost data
- Experience developing and implementing engineering changes
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Technical Knowledge Required Experience with one or more of the following:
- Internal Combustion Engines (ICE)
- Exhaust Systems
- Aftertreatment Systems
- Turbochargers
- Air Induction Systems
- Thermal Management Systems
- Fuel Systems
- Ignition Systems
- Evaporative Emissions Systems
Education / Experience Preferred - Automotive OEM experience
- Powertrain engineering experience
- Technical Value Management (TVM) or Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) experience
- Teamcenter or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
- Power BI reporting and analytics
- Familiarity with automotive product development processes
- Experience utilizing AI-enabled analytical tools
