Job Overview

The Application Specialist (AS), Bioprocessing is responsible for the applications support, technique training, and troubleshooting of technical support issues for the North American market. In addition, provide support to the Sales and Service teams for bioreactors, controllers and associated software.

The AS serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in upstream bioprocessing providing technical leadership and credibility across both customer engagement and internal commercial activities. This role acts as the primary technical liaison between the sales organization and customers, ensuring that complex bioprocessing needs are translated into effective scalable solutions. The AS supports the sales team by delivering deep technical expertise throughout the sales lifecycle including process consultation system, design, and solution configuration.

Job Responsibilities and Essential Duties
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor demonstrating expertise in bioreactor systems, process control strategies including PID control and upstream process optimization.
  • Deliver technical training programs for biotech and academic laboratories.
  • Support driving customer adoption and enabling long-term success with implemented systems.
  • Support the sales team by developing customized hardware and software configurations aligned with customer specific protocols and process requirements.
  • Troubleshoot advanced bioprocess equipment such as bioreactors, automation platforms, and control systems.
  • Work closely with the regional Territory Manager and their customers to identify and understand their process requirements during the quoting process. Facilitate configuring a quotation that matches the application.
  • Provide information to the factory about product issues, customer feedback, and new feature requests.
  • Guide customers through proper use of the equipment during onsite demos or in configuring equipment.
  • Provide training as an instructor on Bioprocessing products.
  • Work with customer service to establish reserve quantity of consumables and critical spare parts, particularly for sensors and single use bioreactors when assigned by manager.
  • Maintain schedule of events and customer requests for demo equipment.
  • Represent the company at tradeshows Perform other related duties as and when assigned.
  • Perform onsite/virtual installations, training, and troubleshoot complex biological manufacturing processes.
  • Advise customers on optimizing protocols (e.g., cell culture, fermentation, hardware implementation, control system optimization) and scale-up strategies.
  • Provide feedback to R&D for product improvements, participate in beta site testing, and stay updated on competitor technology.
  • Collaborate with customers to develop application notes, case studies and white papers to highlight process outcomes, innovative solutions and best practices in bioprocessing.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology/Biotechnology or a related Biochemical or Chemical Engineering field
  • 5+ years' experience in Bioprocess technology or a lab-based position using these products
  • Advanced degree preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Broad knowledge of industry standard mammalian and microbial cultivation techniques
  • Knowledge of cell culture and fermentation reactor design with a strong understanding of bioreactor design principles across bench, pilot and production scales.
  • Expertise includes scale up strategies and technology transfer, ensuring process consistency and performance across different system sizes and manufacturing environments.
  • Deep knowledge in bioprocess engineering, biotechnology, or biochemistry.
  • Hands-on experience with bioreactors, control systems, sensor technology and single-use technologies.
  • Strong MS Office skills
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
    Targeted salary range $97,500-$122,000 depending upon experience and location + 10% bonus target
