Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Pulmonary and Critical Care Nocturnist

Carilion Clinic is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our academic Pulmonary and Critical Care section in Roanoke, Virginia. This full-time night-shift opportunity is ideal for an APP who enjoys high-acuity medicine, values teamwork, and thrives in a dynamic hospital environment.

Our team provides care in two closed ICUs and pulmonary and critical care consultation to four additional ICUs. You will work alongside intensivists, residents, fellows, APPs, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other specialists to care for critically ill patients overnight.

What You'll Do

• Assess and manage critically ill patients in our two closed ICUs and provide consultation to four additional ICUs.
• Participate in admissions, consultations, and ongoing ICU care.
• Develop treatment plans, evaluate changes in patient condition, and initiate appropriate interventions in collaboration with the care team.
• Order and interpret diagnostic testing, laboratory studies, and imaging.
• Perform procedures within your scope of practice, privileges, and demonstrated competencies.
• Collaborate with Pulmonary and Critical Care physicians, residents, fellows, and the multidisciplinary ICU team.
• Communicate with patients and families during complex and often challenging situations.
• Provide clear transitions of care and timely clinical documentation.

What We're Looking For

Qualified candidates will be licensed or eligible for licensure in Virginia as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, hold appropriate national certification, and be eligible for medical staff credentialing and privileges.

Experience in critical care, pulmonary medicine, hospital medicine, emergency medicine, or another high-acuity setting is preferred. We're looking for an APP with sound clinical judgment who communicates clearly, works well across disciplines, and is comfortable practicing in an academic overnight environment.

What We Require:

Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner program or an accredited Physician Assistant program required.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience preferred. Additional experience may be required based on specialty.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Nurse Practitioners must also hold a current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia. Must be eligible for prescriptive authority in accordance with state regulations and as authorized by the Virginia Boards of Nursing and Medicine.

Life Support: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications required as appropriate to the position.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of Carilion Clinic, the Virginia Board of Medicine or Nursing, and applicable certifying bodies. Must meet practice and managed care credentialing requirements and qualify for malpractice insurance coverage. Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare providers. Strong written and verbal communication skills required. Proficiency with electronic medical records and standard computer systems required.

Compensation Range:
$107,993.60 - $172,785.60
Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
