Job Summary: The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) functions as an expert in patient assessment, clinical exam, and appropriate interventions. The APP will have extensive contact with patients, requiring collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals. The APP is dedicated to the provision of competent, compassionate, and ethical care of patients in all settings (inpatient or outpatient).
Job Duties / Responsibilities: - Provide quality and comprehensive care to patients in all settings.
- Assess the physical, emotional, and psychosocial well-being of the patient.
- Provide prompt management of acute symptoms related to the disease and/or treatment and communicate changes in the patient's condition as needed with appropriate staff.
- Appropriately order, review, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
- Provide goals of care discussions and instruct patients and family on treatment course(s).
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, and HIPAA regulations.
- Act within the lawful limits of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing APRN Collaborative Practice Agreement, or the Arkansas State Medical Board PA Protocol.
- Prescribes medication as per state licensing guidelines (but does not prescribe initial chemotherapy or biotherapy).
- Work independently, while collaborating with physicians/referring providers/medical oncologists/hospital staff, respectively.
- Demonstrate knowledge of disease-specific and clinic and/or hospital protocols.
- Billing and documentation are consistently comprehensive, accurate and timely.
- Consult Social Worker, Chaplain, or other healthcare staff as needed.
- Assist in the smooth functioning of the respective department/clinic/hospital in a cost-effective manner.
- Attend required meetings and participate in a constructive manner.
- Maintain a high standard of professional performance, behavior, and appearance.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, caregivers, physicians, and staff.
- Solve problems and clarify necessary steps of logic and reasoning in a professional manager.
- Duties and responsibilities will continue to evolve and may change as deemed necessary, and as the role of the APRN and PA are further developed.
- (For Medical Oncology, Research, and Hospitalist) Perform procedures such as bone marrow biopsies after appropriate training.
- (For Medical Oncology, Palliative Care, and Research) Utilize resources such as NCCN, CAPC, and UpToDate.
- ADDITIONAL DUTIES (Medical Oncology, Palliative Care, Hospitalist): Will be required to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis.
- HOSPITALIST SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Coordinates discharge planning needs with providers involved in the patient's care, hospital staff, the patient and the patient's family or caregiver.
Coordinates transfers to other facilities or hospitals when required and medically appropriate.
Serves as a contact and resource for hospital staff and providers.
RequirementsRequired Skills/Abilities: - Proficient in obtaining HPI/Interval History, and Medical, Social, and Surgical History; Assessment, which includes Review of Systems and Physical Exam; and Clinical Impression/Plan.
- Proficient in EMR utilization.
- Proficient in basic computer skills and utilization of MS Office Suite.
- Able to act with skill under stressful and/or in emergency situations.
- Capable of forming effective relationships with patients, families, the public, and healthcare professionals.
- Skilled in the performance of duties relevant to assigned M.D.'s specialty.
- Understands the legal consequences of actions.
- Possess a combination of nursing skills, physical endurance, mental alertness and knowledge, as well as the ability to get along with others.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals and technical journals.
- Ability to write reports and correspondence.
Certifications/Licenses/Education/or Experience in a related field: - Responsible for keeping licenses, certifications, BLS and ACLS current.
- The APRN or PA has one or more years of experience with a preference for medical oncology.
- Has appropriate licensure with the state of Arkansas. Maintains a current, unencumbered license(s).
- Completes continuing education to maintain licensure and certification(s).
- Demonstrate ongoing professional growth through participation in relevant education and associations.
- Oncology certification encouraged.
Physical Requirements: - Standing and Walking: Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Lifting and moving patients: Ability to lift, move, and assist patients, often requiring more than 50 pounds.
- Pushing and Pulling: Must be able to push and maneuver equipment and patient transport devices.
- Fine Motor Skills: Requires good hand-eye coordination to operate controls and handle small objects.
- Repetitive Motions: Frequent use of hand and fingers for operating machinery and adjusting settings.
- Bending and Reaching: Must bend, stoop, twist, and reach to position patients and operate equipment.
