Anishinabek Student Support Worker
Term: Full-time - Contract
26/27 School Year
Salary Range: $58,670 to $70,060 Hourly (Depending on education and experience)

As an Anishinabek Student Support Worker, you will play a key role in students' lives, working closely with the Whitefish River education staff, parents/guardians, and any other partners who support the educational journey of Anishinabek students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with a support team(s) that includes administrators, education staff, counselors, social workers, and/or other relevant service providers to help identify students' individual needs, assess student needs, and develop/coordinate appropriate interventions.
- Collaborate with the support team(s) to develop alternative options, adapt curriculum, and differentiate instruction to meet students' needs (e.g., mathematics and Literacy coaching).
- Support students individually or in small group settings through mentoring, including building relationships with the students who are supportive and respectful of their cultural identity and needs.
- Provide a safe space for students to feel included and identify with people they know or can relate to.
- Support student transitions with reference to the Anishinabek Education System Student Transitions Protocol document.
- Support each student's Special education needs, referencing the Anishinabek Education System Special Education Guideline where appropriate.
- Develop a resource that outlines support that focuses on Anishinabek students.
- Create and administer a plan of action/work plan.
- Assist Shawanosowe School with students' academic, cultural, social, and emotional support.
- Act as a liaison between parents/guardians and the school by telephone and/or in person as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two (2) years of college diploma in one of the following areas of study: Child and youth care worker, social service worker, psychology, and/or sociology.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with students in an education or similar setting.
- Ability to work on a Support Team to meet the student's academic, social, and well-being needs.
- Good sense of community and area resources.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Cultural connection to Anishinabek's ways of knowing and the Anishinabek community.
- Knowledge of Anishinaabemowin is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Dependability and reliability.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances.
- Valid driver's license and a satisfactory criminal records check.
- Experience working within an Indigenous education system would be an asset.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and language (or willingness to learn).
- Excellent problem-solving, multi-tasking, and collaborative skills; and Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills using a variety of platforms and devices (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Smartboards, iPads, etc.).
Must provide a clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check upon hire.
