Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the News Director, the Anchor serves as the primary personality and host for all NJ PBS video-based news content. This individual presents news, conducts live and studio interviews, and contributes to editorial planning and script writing. The Anchor/Reporter contributes content to both NJ PBS' daily news broadcast and its digital platforms and will occasionally report stories from the field. The Anchor/Reporter brings authority, clarity, and authenticity to NJ PBS and is a key public-facing figure. The Anchor/Reporter exemplifies the station's commitment to serve all New Jerseyans with trustworthy public journalism.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Host news segments from the studio, including daily video-based news posts, the nightly newscast, live special event coverage, and news specials.
  • Develop, write, and deliver news scripts with accuracy and clarity.
  • Conduct in-studio and live remote interviews with newsmakers, officials, experts, contributors, and community members.
  • Contribute to the booking of guests and interview subjects.
  • Collaborate with producers on rundown structure and editorial focus.
  • Participate in editorial meetings, pitch stories and ideas for coverage, and contribute to story selection.
  • Represent NJ PBS at community events, public appearances, and industry functions.
  • Contribute to social media content, including short-form video and social posts.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of New Jersey political, social, and community affairs across all 21 counties.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with news sources, elected officials, community leaders, business leaders, and cultural leaders in New Jersey.
  • Adhere to NJ PBS editorial standards and public media ethics guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in journalism, communications, broadcasting, or a related field.
  • Minimum three years of professional experience working in media.
  • Demonstrated on-camera broadcast experience, including live news anchoring or live news content production in a professional environment.
  • Strong broadcast writing skills with ability to produce and deliver news scripts accurately under deadline.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends for breaking news or special event coverage.
  • Demonstrated ability in reporting and writing news stories for broadcast programs and digital platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal skills


PREFERRED:
  • A master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience at a public media or PBS-affiliated station.
  • Knowledge of New Jersey political, civic, and community affairs.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.

Salary Range
$95,000.00-$110,000.00 Annually
