Full Job Description
City: Sparks State: Nevada ANALYTICAL OPERATIONS LEAD - SPARKS, NV JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Analytical Operations Lead is responsible for overseeing the Analytical team and for coordinating the processing of customer samples in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe practices. Work conditions and physical requirements include light to medium work (must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs for 25 feet) involving chemical hazards. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: • Comply with the OHS Act and Regulations, BV Group Policy and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the Analytical Supervisor position. • Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE). • Carry out analytical procedures in accordance with documented SOPs and other work instructions. • Ensure proper functioning of Analytical operations by: • Monitoring work flow and coordinating on the basis of sample age and priority status • Monitoring staffing levels and coordinate to meet sample volumes • Training and orienting new staff on Analytical procedures • Monitoring the performance of instrumentation including, but not limited to: ICP-OES, AAS, CVAA, Titrimetric Equipment, Balances (including Microbalances), Leco, ICP-MS • Calibrating, operating and analyzing samples by various analytical techniques • Monitoring weighing and digestion equipment to ensure operation within defined parameters • Weighing and digesting samples for various techniques such fire assay digestion, gravimetric, cyanide, selective leaches, aqua regia and 4 acid determinations • Ensuring adequate inventory of consumable supplies (standards, tubing, glassware, etc.) • Preparing reagents and standards for instrument calibration/analysis and maintaining records thereof • Assisting with instrument and method validations • Assisting with client and internal investigations • Practicing good housekeeping. • Review and approve laboratory data at the rack and scheme levels in accordance with quality control requirements. • Communicate general laboratory issues to the Operations Manager as appropriate. • Report any deviation(s) from documented procedures to the Operations Manager. • Report any unsafe condition(s) observed in the department to the Operations Manager. • Report any nonconforming work, customer samples or test data to the Operations Manager • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
