Full Job Description
A career as a member of the Global Credit Markets team at National Bank of Canada Capital Markets means working in a fast-paced environment, supporting the Bank's deployment of the balance sheet to cover clients across the energy, utilities, and energy transition segments of the Canadian and North American markets.

In the Analyst or Associate role, you will use your skills to provide specialized support within the team for structuring complex corporate credit files, including both new financings and renewals with significant changes in conditions. Your ability to build and analyze financial models, conduct thorough due diligence reviews, and to interpret data to provide the information needed to make corporate credit decisions will directly influence decisions of the Bank and drive positive outcomes for our clients and for the organization.

Your Job

  • Support your coverage team on client transactions, risk and project analysis, and portfolio monitoring and maintenance
  • Perform internal risk assessment and return analysis for new and existing borrowers
  • Preparation of credit underwriting materials for use in internal credit assessment and adjudication
  • Actively participate in internal and external meetings on an ongoing basis
  • Work within a collaborative team environment that includes partnership and interaction with colleagues in investment banking, syndications, risk management, and other capital market product groups
  • Contribute to special projects and initiatives as required
  • Ability to interact effectively and build relationships with clients, colleagues, and other advisors
  • Develop a strong foundation of required internal systems/processes and look to support continuous improvement and growth initiatives
  • Stay informed on key trends, events and developments relating to sector coverage

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, economics, business, or related disciplines with outstanding academic achievement
  • Experience in banking and/or an industry related field (i.e. energy industry) would be considered an asset
    • Minimum of 3 years of related experience to be considered for the Associate role
  • A professional designation or progress towards a designation (CFA, CPA, CMA, or P. Eng) would be considered an asset
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including financial modeling in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Bloomberg and S&P Capital IQ would be considered an asset
  • Demonstrated capability to work independently on complex financial analysis
  • Critical thinker with strong attention to detail
  • Must be self motivated team player with a positive, enthusiastic and co-operative attitude
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with the specific ability to communicate concepts and ideas concisely
