POSITION SUMMARY:

Under direction of the Director of Clinical Nutrition, the ambulatory nutrition manager develops, promotes and maintains the nutrition services/program within the ambulatory areas. Apply principles of nutrition and medical nutrition therapy, and program management, to assist the clinics in providing a variety of nutritional services to patients, and to assist the clinic in providing high-quality nutritional care to all ambulatory patients at Boston Medical Center. Works closely with nutrition leaders with the shared goal of a cohesive nutrition team at BMC that supports nutrition care of our patients. Collaborate with clinic management teams to support workflow of staff.

Position: Ambulatory Nutrition Manager       

Department: Endo Diabetes and Nutrition Clinic

Schedule: Full Time

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Responsible for overseeing Staffing and implementing Training of RDs and dietetic interns/students

  • Interviews, hires, orients, and trains registered dietitians to provide quality medical nutrition therapy services to patients

  •  Creates and manages scheduling for the registered dietitian and collaborates with clinics for ongoing scheduling needs.

  • Consistently monitors efficiency and competency of registered dietitians to perform all aspects of their job.

  • Conducts chart audits and annual performance reviews and conducts disciplinary action with appropriate documentation.

  • Supports staff to train and mentor Dietetic Interns, Medical Students, or Pharmacy students by scheduling and overseeing the required training.

  • Schedule and attend RD meetings and ongoing training/learning for staff

Responsible for maintaining regulatory practices and overseeing policy review and implementation.

  • Ensures RDs maintain appropriate credentialing regarding registration for licensure of Massachusetts, and they are maintaining professional development through the Commission of Dietetic Registration.

  • Creates and revises nutrition related hospital wide policies and guidelines with Clinical Nutrition Manager

  • Develops, coordinates, and ensures compliance with nutrition policies and procedures.

  • Is a member of the multidisciplinary BMC nutrition committee responsible for collaborating to review nutrition safety events throughout the system and to collaborate on nutrition related quality improvement initiatives throughout the organization.

Patient Care Supports

  • Collaborate with RD staff, Nutrition Leaders, and providers to support the nutritional care of the patients

  • Oversee the development of or develop and maintain education material as necessary to support patient care.

Clinic Support

  • Work with clinic leaders on creating and maintaining RD schedules

  • Collaborate with Clinic Operations teams to adhere to managed care/billing guidelines

  • Work with clinic management team to ensure high level of nutrition service and efficient daily operations.

Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, so the best possible patient care may be provided.

Utilizes hospital’s Values as the basis for decision-making and to facilitate the division’s hospital mission.

Perform other duties as needed or as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Prior to Jan. 2024

Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or a closely related field. Master’s degree and prior leadership experience preferred.

After Jan.2024: Per Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics new Guidelines

Complete a minimum of a master's degree granted by a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting agency or foreign equivalent, and coursework through an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics accredited Didactic, Coordinated, Graduate or International program Complete required supervised practice/experience through an ACEND-accredited Dietetic Internship (DPD), Coordinated Program, Graduate Program, or an Individualized Supervised Practice Pathway offered through an ACEND-accredited program. Prior leadership experience preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

-Required: Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience as a registered dietitian.

Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (If none, please enter “N/A”):

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in ambulatory care setting preferred
  • Experience in Medical Weight management, Obesity, Diabetes, and Malnutrition preferred.
  • Experience with Management or Leadership, preferred with greater than 2 years, including but not limited to mentoring, precepting supporting individuals and groups

  • Ability to effectively manage the employees within assigned unit/department and to persuade and negotiate with peer level managers on issues and programs that impact assigned unit/department.
  • Ability to deal effectively with conflicting views or issues and mediating fair and workable solutions.
  • Strong clinical skills required to support staff , patient care initiatives, and patient safety

  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills required.

Compensation Range:

$83,000.00- $120,500.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
