Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as an Ambulatory Nursing Supervisor with our Pediatric team in Pediatrics Subspecialty Clinic - Hyde Park. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

The Ambulatory Nursing Supervisor is responsible for administrative and patient care activities across two sites and a broad portfolio of pediatric and adult specialty practices. This position provides consistent, unified nursing leadership across Comer Children's Hospital and the Cottage Grove Avenue Clinic, overseeing clinical operations in the following specialty areas:

Essential Job Functions
  • Provides unified clinical leadership and direct supervisory oversight of nursing and clinical staff across Comer Children's Hospital and the Cottage Grove Avenue Clinic. Manages Human Resources activities for direct reports including hiring, scheduling, performance appraisals, competency validation, and ongoing performance management. Applies consistent standards of clinical practice and conduct across all specialty practices at both sites. Provides administrative management coverage in the absence of Practice Administrators.
  • Monitors and coordinates patient flow across all specialty clinics at both sites. Ensures that clinical staff are appropriately assessing patients, performing triage, and documenting findings accurately and in a timely manner in Epic. Addresses variation in workflow or documentation standards across specialties to maintain consistency and quality.
  • Confers with physicians and advanced practice providers across all specialty areas concerning the care and treatment of individual patients. Evaluates patient acuity across the full continuum of specialty care (pediatric and adult) on a daily basis and intervenes as needed to ensure patient safety and appropriate clinical response.
  • Works closely with Ambulatory Medical Directors and Practice Administrators at both Comer and Cottage Grove to oversee all quality and safety initiatives. Thoroughly evaluates new procedures, programs, or treatment protocols to address regulatory, compliance, staffing, and equipment needs. Actively participates in UCMC Practice Councils and represents Ambulatory Nursing at multi-site and system-level quality forums.
  • Works closely with Practice Administrators and Medical Directors at both sites to address patient and provider satisfaction concerns. Investigates patient concerns, implements service recovery protocols, and reviews patient educational materials across all specialty areas to ensure adherence to UCMC professional and quality standards.
  • Establishes, coordinates, and maintains comprehensive training and orientation programs for all new clinical personnel at both sites, including Medical Assistants, LPNs, & RNs.. Coordinates onboarding activities across 16+ specialty practice areas with attention to specialty-specific clinical protocols and scope of practice. Coordinates activities with Research Nurses as applicable.
  • Ensures all clinical staff at both sites attend, participate in, and complete mandatory educational programs and in-service requirements per The Joint Commission (TJC/JCAHO) regulations. Monitors compliance and achieves 100% completion of annual competencies. Administers and documents competency testing across all specialty disciplines.
  • Ensures non-clinical and clinical practice staff are communicating effectively across both sites so that patients are roomed in a timely manner, clinical questions are addressed promptly, and referrals between specialty areas are handled efficiently. Serves as an operational liaison between Comer and Cottage Grove site teams.
  • Rounds throughout all specialty practice areas at both sites to inspect the environment of care for cleanliness, maintenance of equipment, supply inventory, and adherence to infection control standards. Monitors telephone pools directed to nursing staff for medication refills and symptom management. Sets standards for callback turnaround times and monitors compliance through Epic pools and messaging. Take corrective action as needed.
  • Performs other duties as requested by senior management.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Five or more years of nursing experience, with a minimum of two years in a supervisory or leadership capacity in an ambulatory, multi-specialty, or academic medical center setting.
  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Nursing, MBA, or MHA
  • Experience leading teams across multiple sites or departments is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with pediatric and adult patient populations
  • Nursing leadership or ambulatory care certification (e.g., Ambulatory Care Nursing - RN-BC)

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
