AltaGas - Advisor, EHS

We are seeking a safety-focused professional to join our team as an Advisor, Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) at our Slave Lake facility.

Reporting to the Team Lead, Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Midstream, the Advisor, EHS is responsible for supporting and promoting a strong safety culture at the Slave Lake facility while ensuring alignment with AltaGas corporate Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) requirements. The Advisor serves as a key liaison between operations leadership, employees, contractors, and the corporate EHS team, providing guidance, oversight, and support in all aspects of health and safety management.

This position is responsible for ensuring employee training and competency requirements are maintained, supporting regulatory compliance, facilitating incident management and emergency preparedness activities, and providing leadership on safety initiatives across the Slave Lake operation.

What You'll Do
Safety Leadership & Training
  • Coordinate and conduct safety onboarding for new employees and contract workers.
  • Maintain employee safety certifications and competency records, ensuring training requirements are current and compliant.
  • Coordinate recertification requirements and external training courses as required.
  • Support and promote corporate safety initiatives and programs.
  • Facilitate and deliver safety-related training sessions and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure training requirements are established and maintained for new equipment, processes, and operational changes.

Safety Programs & Compliance
  • Participate in incident investigations and assist in the completion of incident reports, corrective actions, and follow-up activities.
  • Maintain site safety databases and records.
  • Develop, review, and update safety procedures, standards, and work practices.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and assessments to monitor compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support contractor safety management processes and requirements.
  • Maintain site Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure product SDS requirements remain current.
  • Audit and monitor programs such as isolation, lockout/tagout, and other critical safety controls.

Emergency Preparedness & Response
  • Coordinate and maintain an active role in the site's Emergency Response Program (ERP).
  • Support emergency preparedness planning, training, and exercises.
  • Participate in emergency response events and provide support during incident management activities.
  • Assist in maintaining emergency response documentation, resources, and regulatory requirements.

Safety Committees & Communication
  • Serve as a site representative and liaison with corporate EHS teams.
  • Support site safety committees and participate in safety meetings.
  • Coordinate and facilitate monthly safety meetings for operations, maintenance, and other site personnel.
  • Foster employee engagement and participation in safety initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.

Operational & Project Support
  • Provide safety support during project planning, construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Assist in turnaround planning and execution as it relates to safety requirements.
  • Coordinate safety-related maintenance requirements with operations and maintenance teams.
  • Support the identification, development, and implementation of safety improvement projects.
  • Assist with budget planning and cost control for safety-related programs and initiatives.

Regulatory & Environmental Support
  • Provide support and backup coverage for regulatory reporting and compliance activities.
  • Maintain awareness of provincial and federal regulatory requirements applicable to the Slave Lake operation.
  • Assist with regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance initiatives.
  • Support risk assessments and hazard identification activities across the facility.

What You'll Bring
Required
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in oil and gas operations, maintenance, health and safety, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, industry best practices, and safe work procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with the ability to travel as required.
Preferred
  • Occupational Health & Safety Degree, Diploma, Certificate, NCSO, CRSP, or equivalent designation (completed or in progress).
  • Experience developing and coordinating Emergency Response Programs (ERP).
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Experience applying risk assessment methodologies in industrial environments.
  • Experience supporting regulatory compliance within the oil and gas industry.
