Job Title: Interventional Radiology Technologist (IR Tech)

Job Summary:

An Interventional Radiology Technologist (IR Tech) supports physicians in performing minimally invasive, image-guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This role involves preparing and operating advanced imaging equipment, assisting in procedures, and ensuring patient safety. The IR Tech works collaboratively with the healthcare team to provide high-quality care while adhering to strict safety and infection control standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the interventional radiology suite by setting up sterile fields, instruments, and imaging equipment.
  • Assist physicians during interventional procedures, including angioplasty, stent placement, embolization, biopsies, and drain insertions.
  • Operate fluoroscopy, CT, or ultrasound equipment to produce high-quality images for accurate procedure guidance.
  • Administer contrast media as directed and monitor patients for potential adverse reactions.
  • Monitor and document patient vitals, procedural details, and imaging data throughout the procedure.
  • Assist in patient positioning, ensuring comfort and proper alignment for imaging and procedural accuracy.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot interventional radiology equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Follow strict infection control and radiation safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Provide patient education and emotional support before, during, and after procedures.
  • Participate in post-procedural care by assisting with dressing changes, patient transfers, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other team members to ensure the highest standards of care.
  • Stay updated on new interventional radiology techniques, procedures, and equipment through continuing education.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.
  • Certification:
    • Registered Radiologic Technologist (RT) certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
    • Advanced certification in Vascular-Interventional Radiography (VI) or Cardiac-Interventional Radiography (CI) is preferred.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a cath lab, radiology department, or interventional radiology setting is preferred.
