Full Job Description
The Role

Mach Industries is seeking an Air Vehicle Design Engineer to develop the overall design of next-generation unmanned aircraft and missile systems from initial concept through detailed CAD definition.

In this role, you'll perform first-order vehicle sizing and configuration studies, translate mission requirements into viable vehicle concepts, and develop high-quality CAD models that mature those concepts into manufacturable hardware. You'll work closely with aerodynamics, propulsion, structures, manufacturing, and flight test throughout the design cycle.

This position is ideal for engineers who enjoy both conceptual aircraft design and detailed vehicle development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop overall vehicle configurations from mission and system requirements.
  • Perform first-order sizing and layout studies to establish feasible vehicle architectures.
  • Create and maintain detailed CAD models, including vehicle outer mold line (OML), internal packaging, and major assemblies.
  • Evaluate design trades involving aerodynamic performance, weight, manufacturability, modularity, and subsystem integration.
  • Collaborate closely with aerodynamics, propulsion, structures, guidance, manufacturing, and flight-test teams throughout vehicle development.
  • Produce engineering drawings and support prototype fabrication.
  • Present technical recommendations and design trade studies to engineering leadership.

Required Qualifications
  • Entry Level: BS/MS in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or similar with internship, research, Formula SAE, CubeSat, UAS, or aerospace design experience.
  • Senior: 5+ years of experience designing aircraft, missiles, or unmanned systems.
  • Experience performing conceptual vehicle sizing or preliminary aircraft/missile design.
  • Proficiency with NX, CATIA, Creo, or equivalent CAD software.
  • Understanding of aircraft or missile geometry, packaging, and multidisciplinary design tradeoffs.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with conceptual aircraft or missile design methodologies.
  • High-speed, high-altitude, or tactical UAS development.
  • Low-observable (LO) design principles.
  • Class A surfacing or advanced CAD surfacing.
  • Parametric CAD and model-based design.
  • Flight-test or prototype development experience.
