Director of Safety & RiskAqua Gulf Supply ChainPosition SummaryThe Director of Safety & Risk is responsible for the design, implementation, and oversight of all safety, compliance, and risk management programs across Aqua Gulf Supply Chain. This role ensures adherence to
DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and applicable federal and state regulations, while actively fostering a culture of safety and accountability among drivers and employees.
This leader partners closely with executive leadership to align safety and risk strategies with broader business objectives-balancing compliance, operational efficiency, and profitability.
Key ResponsibilitiesSafety Leadership & Compliance- Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and best practices across fleet operations
- Ensure full compliance with FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements
- Lead CSA (Compliance, Safety, Accountability) initiatives to reduce violations and improve safety scores
- Maintain all required compliance documentation including driver qualification files, drug/alcohol testing records, and vehicle maintenance logs
- Prepare for, lead, and successfully manage DOT/FMCSA audits
Training & Safety Culture- Design and deliver impactful safety training programs, including new driver onboarding and ongoing education
- Conduct regular safety meetings, coaching sessions, and awareness initiatives
- Promote a proactive safety culture rooted in accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement
Risk Management & Claims Oversight- Establish and manage enterprise-wide risk management policies and frameworks
- Oversee corporate insurance programs including auto liability, general liability, property, and workers' compensation
- Lead claims management processes, partnering with insurers, legal counsel, and third-party administrators
- Analyze accidents and incident trends to develop and deploy targeted prevention strategies
Data, Technology & Continuous Improvement- Leverage telematics, dash cams, GPS tracking, and ELD systems to monitor driver behavior and improve safety performance
- Utilize safety data, compliance metrics, and trend analysis to inform decisions and drive measurable results
- Stay current on evolving regulations, industry trends, and emerging safety technologies
Strategic Leadership- Advise executive leadership on safety risks, mitigation strategies, and regulatory exposure
- Develop and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery plans
- Lead response efforts during safety incidents or crisis situations
- Identify areas for operational improvement that enhance both safety outcomes and business performance
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of company goals
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Transportation, Logistics, or a related field (preferred)
- 5+ years of progressive experience in transportation safety, fleet management, or regulatory compliance within the trucking/logistics industry
- Deep expertise in DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and Hazardous Materials regulations
- Proven track record of improving safety performance and reducing risk exposure
Skills & Competencies- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and implement effective safety strategies
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, fleet management systems, ELD platforms, Origami, and other TPA tools
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence, train, and engage diverse audiences
- Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
- High level of integrity, sound judgment, and attention to detail
- Ability to conduct audits, evaluate compliance gaps, and implement corrective actions
- Passion for coaching and developing others to achieve high performance
