Aftertreatment Performance Project Leader
Mossville, IL

Job Summary:

The Large Power Systems Division is seeking an Aftertreatment Performance Project Leader to join the Aftertreatment & Exhaust Systems (AT&ES) performance engineering team. In this role, you will serve as both a technical leader and an individual contributor-providing deep expertise in aftertreatment performance while guiding and coordinating the work of a cross-functional engineering team. You will contribute to system architecture, evaluate and update performance-critical aftertreatment components, and drive design improvements that reduce harmful diesel and gas engine emissions.

As part of the AT&ES organization, this role focuses on the selection, development, and performance optimization of aftertreatment systems across diverse applications, including locomotive, marine, and Cat machines. Responsibilities include assessing system and component options across dimensions such as cost, performance, reliability, and life, and leading strategic planning for future cost-effective aftertreatment technologies.

In addition, the Aftertreatment Performance Project Leader will oversee engineering documentation and drawing releases, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely incorporation of design changes. You will coordinate the evaluation, validation, and release of performance-related component updates, working closely with design, validation, calibration, manufacturing, and supplier teams to ensure robust system performance throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Collaborate with customers and leadership to scope and execute projects that meet the needs of the business
  • Accountable for delivering timely, high-quality simulation and analysis impacting products/processes and providing clear recommendations to stakeholders
  • Partner with design, manufacturing, supply chain and test to robustly deliver new products and improve validation processes
  • Keep up-to-date on new technologies and drive continuous improvement to established techniques


Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

  • Problem Solving: Expert level knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Technical Excellence: Extensive knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Project Management: Extensive knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.


Top Candidates Will Have:
  • Demonstrated experience in designing performance components including implementation into production.
  • Prior Aftertreatment, engine performance, and/or fuel system experience
  • Prior NPI/NTI experience

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
