Process Engineer

Position Overview:

The Process Engineer position will work collaboratively within a team environment to develop and improve manufacturing and metallurgical processes that support growth in the aerospace and industrial investment casting markets. This role is responsible for optimizing the DS/SX casting process, from gate design through shelling parameters, while developing and maintaining best-practice casting procedures. The position also focuses on identifying and resolving process and quality issues to improve yield, reduce rework, and enhance product quality, and may occasionally lead cross-functional problem-solving efforts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Interpret customer specifications relative to establishing internal written NDT specifications
  • Develop the overall metallurgical casting process from gate design to establishing casting parameters
  • Assess the physical structure and behavior of metals and metal distribution systems within DS/SX systems
  • Investigate metallurgical failure using root cause analysis
  • Publish reports on research and complete tests using data-based decisions
  • Identify and improve process yields using various data analysis techniques (statistical, mathematical, DOE, 6 Sigma, etc.) to uncover variables in the process
  • Document work procedures and processes
  • Routinely audit production lots for adherence to established techniques and to ensure the repeatability of the results
  • Identify, evaluate and implement new process technologies that will extend manufacturing and product capabilities
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure organization objectives are achieved
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner
  • Improve labor utilization and reduce costs


Qualifications & Requirements:

Education & Experience:
  • BS in Engineering or related technical field
  • Minimum 5 years' applicable experience in a process-driven engineering role
  • Preferred experience with metallurgy or process engineering within the investment casting industry

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Working knowledge of solidification modeling
  • Knowledge and application of DS/SX starter design and proven improvement in DS/SX yields and product quality
  • Able to interpret customer drawings and navigate models (i.e. NX9 or higher, Solidworks)
  • Good written communication skills to develop CPP processing and work instructions
  • Good verbal communication skills and can feel at ease communicating with customer engineering groups
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills


Work Environment
  • Office setting with frequent trips out on the plant floor
  • Sitting or standing for long periods of time, may be required to lift Metal castings up to 50 lbs.; extended periods of time using a computer screen.
  • PPE varies throughout the plant, check with area Supervisor to ensure proper PPE is being used.
  • Occasional work on weekends
  • Travel Requirements: 5%
