GEICO is seeking an AEO Outreach Manager to own how our brand is discovered, verified, and cited inside AI-powered answer platforms including ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews. In this role you will secure third-party brand mentions, authoritative source placements, and knowledge-graph records that large language models draw on when they decide which insurer to recommend.
AI answer engines rarely construct recommendations from a brand27s own website. They synthesize consensus from comparison publishers, ratings bodies, regulatory data, expert roundups, and community discussion. Your mandate is to make GEICO the best-represented, most consistently described, and most frequently cited auto and commercial insurer across that external ecosystem.
This is a measured discipline, not a relationship-only role. You will work in GEICO27s AI visibility measurement stack to identify which external sources models actually cite by line of business, target outreach against those specific sources, and report movement in citation share and share of voice to senior leadership. Success is defined by verifiable gains in AI visibility against named competitors, not by placement volume.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing Strategy, SEO, the AEO Outreach Manager will operate across Marketing, Corporate Communications, Legal, Product, and Web Development, and will manage external agency partners supporting the AEO program.
Key Responsibilities
Entity & Source Validation: Identify and pitch the high-authority publications, ratings bodies, databases, and directories that large language models crawl to verify real-world brand entities. Ensure GEICO27s core entity attributes are present, accurate, and consistent across those sources.
Brand Citations: Secure both linked and unlinked brand mentions in high-trust third-party consensus sources, including comparison and personal-finance publishers, expert roundups, and community platforms that AI engines use for retrieval and training data.
Consensus & Community Presence: Build and maintain accurate GEICO representation in the community sources answer engines weight heavily, including Reddit, Quora, and industry forums. Monitor sentiment and factual accuracy, and correct misrepresentation through appropriate, disclosed channels.
Collaborative Content Seeding: Partner with community outreach and publisher networks to place clear, factual, structured information where AI systems look for agreement across sources. Develop the assets, data points, and proof points that make GEICO the easiest insurer to cite accurately.
Technical Alignment: Coordinate with Content and Web Development to ensure public-facing digital assets use clean schema markup and structured data architectures that AI agents can parse, and that on-site entity signals reinforce off-site placements.
Knowledge Graph Management: Own the accuracy of GEICO27s presence in structured knowledge sources that feed model grounding, including Wikidata, business databases, and profile records. Resolve conflicting or outdated entity data at the source.
Measurement & Reporting: Track citation share, share of voice, source-level mention frequency, and sentiment by line of business using GEICO27s AI visibility platform. Build recurring readouts that connect outreach activity to measurable movement in AI visibility and deliver findings-forward reporting to senior leadership.
Competitive Intelligence: Continuously analyze which external sources competitors are winning citations from, diagnose why, and translate those findings into a prioritized outreach roadmap designed to displace them.
Vendor & Agency Management: Manage outreach agency partners, including scope definition, quality standards, source-quality guardrails, performance review, and budget tracking against program outcomes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with SEO, Content Strategy, Brand, Legal, Product, and Corporate Communications so that outreach targets reinforce broader organic and brand priorities rather than operating as a standalone channel.
Process & Playbook Development: Build the repeatable infrastructure of the discipline: source qualification criteria, pitch frameworks, outreach tracking, escalation paths, and documented standards that allow the program to scale beyond a single practitioner.
Key Qualifications
Experience: 6+ years in SEO, off-page SEO, earned media or link acquisition, o preferably within an agency or in-house marketing team, with a demonstrable record of securing placements in high-authority publications.
AEO & AI Search Knowledge: Working understanding of how large language models retrieve, ground, and cite sources, including retrieval-augmented generation, citation behavior across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews, and why off-site consensus drives AI visibility.
Entity & Knowledge Graph Fluency: Practical experience managing brand entity data across structured sources, and an understanding of how entity consistency affects machine interpretation of a brand.
Technical Literacy: Comfortable reading and specifying schema.org structured data and evaluating whether a page is machine-readable. Able to brief developers precisely without needing to write production code.
Measurement & Analytics: Experience with AI visibility measurement platforms such as Profound, alongside Google Search Console and GA4. Able to build a defensible measurement narrative and distinguish correlation from causation.
Regulated-Industry Judgment: Experience operating within legal, compliance, or brand review processes, ideally in insurance or financial services, with sound instincts for what can and cannot be claimed externally.
Vendor Management: Demonstrated ability to manage agency partners to defined outcomes, including quality control over source selection and outreach practices.
Executive Communication: Ability to translate technical AI search concepts into clear business framing for senior stakeholders, and to write concisely and precisely under scrutiny.
Project Management: Ability to manage concurrent outreach campaigns and reporting cycles in a fast-paced environment without loss of quality or accuracy.
Adaptability: A proactive mindset with the ability to stay ahead of a discipline whose best practices are still being written, and to revise approach as model behavior changes.
Core Competencies
Drives Results Through Earned Authority: You take ownership of AI visibility outcomes, pursuing the placements that measurably change how answer engines describe and recommend GEICO.
Builds Credibility With External Partners: You earn coverage through genuine value and accurate information, protecting GEICO27s reputation in every external interaction.
Operates With Compliance Discipline: You treat regulatory and brand review as a design constraint rather than an obstacle, and you never trade accuracy for speed.
Data-Informed Outreach Strategy: You target sources because the data shows models cite them, and you retire tactics that do not move measurable visibility.
Collaborative and Adaptable: You work effectively across Marketing, Communications, Legal, and Engineering, and you adjust quickly as AI search platforms evolve.
Location: Bethesda or NYC; this is a hybrid role with a 3-day in office requirement
