Responsibilities

  • Support Indigenous Business Development initiatives through measurable actions and reporting processes.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain Management and other teams to advance procurement opportunities for Indigenous businesses.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve Indigenous procurement dashboards and performance metrics.
  • Analyze data related to Indigenous procurement spending and provide insights for business decisions.
  • Prepare and deliver detailed reports on Indigenous procurement performance for stakeholders.
  • Coordinate third-party assurance activities to maintain audit-ready documentation and governance processes.
  • Ensure accurate onboarding and verification of Indigenous suppliers within procurement systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement in data quality and supplier participation across regions.

About this opportunity:

The Advisor, Indigenous Business Development (IBD) supports the advancement of Cenovus' Indigenous economic participation objectives through coordinated procurement, reporting, supplier development, governance, and reporting integrity activities. This role works closely with Supply Chain Management (SCM), business units, project teams, and regional Community & Indigenous Affairs (CIA) Advisors to strengthen Indigenous participation across Cenovus' supply chain and support the identification, development, and advancement of Indigenous business opportunities.

What you'll do:
  • Support the execution of Indigenous Business Development initiatives by translating strategy into measurable actions, reporting processes, and business unit accountabilities.
  • Partner with Supply Chain Management, Operations, Finance, and other teams to identify and advance procurement opportunities for Indigenous businesses.
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Indigenous procurement dashboards, performance metrics, and reporting tools.
  • Analyze Indigenous procurement spend data, track performance against targets, and provide insights and recommendations to support business decisions and program growth.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on Indigenous procurement performance for leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate third-party assurance activities by maintaining audit-ready documentation, supporting information requests, and strengthening reporting controls and governance processes.
  • Support Indigenous supplier onboarding, enrollment, and verification activities, ensuring supplier information is accurate, current, and reflected in procurement systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement by enhancing data quality, reporting consistency, governance practices, and supplier participation across operating regions.


Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Commerce, Supply Chain Management, Indigenous Studies, Economics, Public Administration or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in energy or related industrial sectors (technical, operational, commercial, supply chain, or advisory)
  • Strong analytical, data management and reporting skills with excel and dashboard/reporting tools (Power BI, SAP, Ariba or similar)
  • Demonstrated understanding of oil and gas business functions and Indigenous business alignment opportunities
  • Proven experience in an advisory role within complex, cross-functional organizations requiring strong relationship management, communication, and facilitation skills
  • High degree of professional judgment and ability to manage sensitive external relationships are required.
