Position: Advanced Manufacturing & Quality Engineer

Department: Engineering - Hydro Flask & OXO

Work Location: Bend, OR, Hybrid (work 3 days onsite)

Hybrid Schedule: At Helen of Troy, we embrace a flexible hybrid work model designed to support collaboration and productivity. For roles eligible for hybrid work, our standard schedule includes in-office collaboration from Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. What you will be doing:

The Advanced Manufacturing & Quality Engineer develops, implements, and sustains quality systems to ensure Hydro Flask products meet customer expectations for safety, durability, and performance. This role supports both New Product Introduction (NPI) and sustaining production across a global supplier base, applying structured problem-solving, quality planning, and data analysis to improve cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Partner with Design, Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and suppliers to embed manufacturing quality from concept through launch.
  • Support Technical Reviews, Manufacturing Builds, and Pilot Builds.
  • Define and validate Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) characteristics and provide early-stage DFX feedback.
  • Support quality and manufacturing planning activities, including development of DFMEAs, PFMEAs, control plans, inspection standards, and robust measurement systems.
  • Lead and manage PPAP submissions, ensuring supplier compliance, process capability validation, and on-time documentation delivery.
  • Collaborate with overseas engineering teams and suppliers to review, approve, track, and maintain PPAP documentation across NPI and sustaining products.
  • Develop and maintain a PPAP tracker to manage maturity levels across products and factories; elevate legacy programs to required PPAP standards.
  • Work closely with contract manufacturers to ensure robust incoming, in-process, and final inspection control plans.
  • Identify gaps in current AQME systems and implement improvements to drive consistency, efficiency, and enforceability.
  • Drive continuous improvement using supplier feedback to address recurring issues and implement process enhancements that improve manufacturability, cost, quality, and throughput.
  • Support production issues as needed, providing structured problem-solving and corrective actions.
  • Support validation and qualification of new or additional toolsets, ensuring dimensional, capability, and performance alignment with existing tooling.
  • Identify manufacturing improvement opportunities related to cycle time, quality, throughput, automation, and NRE investments.
  • Support qualification of dual-sourced production and onboarding of new suppliers in alignment with Hydro Flask quality standards.
  • Own manufacturing process specifications and ensure accurate cross-functional communication and rollout of updates across all suppliers and facilities.
  • Develop new process specifications and coordinate testing activities as required.
  • Drive ECR/ECO/ECN execution for manufacturing and process changes, including alignment, implementation planning, documentation, and rollout.
  • Provide feedback to continuously improve Engineering Change mechanisms and cross-functional collaboration.


Skills needed to be successful in this role:
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing and process engineering principles.
  • Ability to operate in a highly ambiguous environment while managing multiple projects and prioritizing effectively.
  • Solid understanding of quality management systems and APQP/PPAP methodologies.
  • Experience with SPC, MSA, capability studies, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement tools.
  • Proven ability to diagnose issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Demonstrated success improving manufacturing processes to enhance quality and reduce cost.
  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle management from development through end of life.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional and global teams.
  • Experience building or scaling manufacturing and quality systems (start-up experience a plus).


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Quality Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing or quality engineering for high-volume consumer products.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting manufacturing or product defects.
  • Experience working with international, cross-functional teams.
  • Experience building and managing change control systems to ensure design and process continuity.
  • Hands-on experience working directly with international suppliers (China and Southeast Asia a plus).
  • Experience partnering with Design Engineering and Product Development to influence DFX decisions.
  • Authorization to work full-time in the United States.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with metals and plastics manufacturing processes.
  • NPI experience supporting Manufacturing Build, Pilot, and Mass Production phases.
  • Hands-on experience reviewing supplier PPAPs, including PFMEAs, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, DOE, APQP, 8D, and Gage R&R.
  • Exposure to supplier quality management, including second sourcing initiatives.
  • International supplier experience in China and Southeast Asia.
