Surgical Physician Assistant (PA)

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Surgical Physician Assistant (PA) to join our esteemed surgical team at a leading hospital in New York. In this role, you will work closely with surgeons and the healthcare team to provide comprehensive pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care for patients undergoing a variety of surgical procedures.

As a Surgical PA, you will be an integral part of the surgical care team, assisting with a range of surgeries, from routine to complex, across multiple specialties. This position offers an exciting opportunity to expand your skills in a collaborative and dynamic environment, contributing to high-quality patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pre-operative Care: Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, review medical histories, order necessary diagnostic tests, and provide education and counseling to patients prior to surgery.
  • Intra-operative Care: Assist during surgical procedures by providing direct support to the surgical team, including suturing, specimen collection, and surgical site management.
  • Post-operative Care: Monitor and assess patients post-surgery, managing pain, complications, and recovery. Provide discharge instructions, and ensure patients have appropriate follow-up care.
  • Patient Management: Collaborate with attending physicians, residents, and other medical professionals to develop and implement treatment plans for surgical patients.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Patient Education: Provide counseling on post-operative care, including medication management, activity restrictions, wound care, and signs of complications.
  • On-call Responsibilities: Participate in on-call rotations as needed for emergency surgical care.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes and efficient workflow in the surgical department.
