Full Job Description
The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Dermatology is seeking a Physician Assistant to provide specialized dermatologic care in an outpatient setting. This role will support both general dermatology clinics and Mohs surgical procedures and participate in the dermatology transplant program. As a valued member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will contribute to excellence in patient care, patient safety, quality improvement, research, education, and program development. The APP will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care while supporting the department's mission of clinical excellence, innovation, and teaching.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
  • Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
  • Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.


Department Specific Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring Mohs and dermatologic intervention in outpatient environment as a member of the team.
  • Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders.
  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.
  • Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the dermatology services.
  • Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
  • Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
  • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.
  • Performs consult visits (in-person and virtual visits) for patients needing Mohs surgical procedures.
  • Coordinate the dermatology transplant tumor board
  • Position located at clinics in the Milwaukee Area
  • Positions reports to the Department Administrator with clinical oversight from Chair and Medical Directors.


Schedule:

Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Education:

  • Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.
