Program OverviewThe
Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship in Hospital Medicine at Penn State Hershey Medical Center is a
structured post-graduate training program for
Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs). The fellowship combines
hands-on clinical experience, specialty rotations, and didactic education to prepare APPs for independent practice in hospital medicine.
Program StructureThe fellowship is divided into
three core phases:
- Foundational Training - APPs receive structured onboarding, including clinical skills development, hospital workflows, EMR training, and supervised patient care.
- Core Clinical Rotations - Fellows gain in-depth experience in general inpatient medicine and specialty areas such as:
- Addiction Medicine
- Cardiology
- Gastroenterology
- Hematology/Oncology
- Infectious Disease
- Nephrology
- Neurology
- Palliative Care
- Community Hospitalist
- Hospitalist Cross-Coverage (Nights)
- Advanced Practice & Elective Rotations - Fellows tailor their experience by selecting electives in hospital medicine sub-specialties, including options such as ICU and interventional radiology.
Schedule & Work Hours- Primarily Monday - Friday
- Night Rotations Required for cross-coverage experience (Monday - Thursday, 7 PM - 7 AM)
- Weekend Work Required for some electives
