Cardiothoracic Clinical APP (Inpatient)

Shift: Full-time weekend option days Th-Sun 7 am - 5 pm

Location: This position is at The Christ Hospital Main location, 2139 Auburn Ave Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.

Position Description:

The Christ Hospital Heart & Vascular Institute is seeking an NP or PA to add to our inpatient practice in Cincinnati, OH. The program currently has 7 Cardiac Surgeons, 1 dedicated Thoracic Surgeon, with 11 APPs. This role will be a Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday rotation which includes seeing CT Surgery consults and rounding on the CT surgery pre- and post-operative patients currently admitted to the hospital. This does not include management of ICU patients.

Education, License and Credentials:

Required: Current NP or PA licensure and certification. BLS, ACLS and DEA licenses required.

Certified Nurse Practitioner: Acute Care, Adult, or Family Nurse Practitioner certification verified by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Current, valid license (registration) by the Ohio Board of Nursing or applicable state board. NP must have First Assist certification.

OR

Physician Assistant: Graduate from an accredited physician assistant program with a Master's Degree Physician Assistant Certification (verified by the National Commission or the Certification of Physician Assistant - NCCPA. Current, valid license (registration) by the state Medical Board of Ohio or applicable state medical board. Current Certificate to prescribe by the State Medical Board of Ohio.

Preferred Skills:

1-2 years of prior experience working in either an inpatient or outpatient role within cardiac surgery, cardiology, or heart failure. New graduates welcome to apply. Duties will include, but are not limited to, seeing new patient consults and staffing with an on-call surgeon. Admitting preoperative patients to prepare for surgery and discharging postoperative patients. Rounding on postoperative patients who have undergone cardiac or thoracic surgery and writing daily progress notes. Other duties to include, wound vac management, simple I&D procedures, chest tube management, pacing wire removal, pericardial drain removal, suturing and removal and basic wound care.

Physical and mental requirements:
  • Able to clearly articulate scope of practice and practices within those guidelines as an NP/PA in the state of Ohio and within The Christ Hospital
  • Able to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively to solve complex problems
  • Able to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others
  • Able to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, perform health assessments, treatment, and follow-up
  • Able to use fine motor skills
  • Able to record activities, document assessments, and interventions; prepare reports and presentations.
  • Able to use computer and learn new software programs
  • Able to provide leadership in clinical area of expertise and in meeting organizational goals
  • Able to navigate the Hospital and to provide clinical expertise to specific patient populations
  • Able to withstand prolonged standing and walking with the ability to move or lift at least fifty pounds
  • Able to remain focused and organized
  • Able to work collaboratively with all levels of personnel

Some holiday and overnight clinical call responsibility.
