Full Job Description
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will provide direct patient care, assist with surgical procedures, and contribute to research and education initiatives and will primarily support patients at the Texas Medical Center campus. This position will function in the outpatient clinic setting as well as the operating room. UT MD Anderson is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The ideal candidate will have preferred experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in Urology, including at least two years of APP experience. Candidates should be committed to delivering patient-centered care, collaborating within multidisciplinary teams, and supporting both outpatient and surgical patient populations.

Advanced Practice Provider - Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) - Urology Inpatient

Salary: Minimum $117,500.00 - Midpoint $146,500.00 - Maximum $176,500.00
Work Location: Main Campus at the Texas Medical Center

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtains medical history and performs physical exam on patients. Interprets diagnostic tests and radiographic results and come up with a management plan for patients in concert with fellow and faculty physicians. Takes responsibility for patient assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient needs as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team. Documents in chart for all patients seen.
  • Reviews/orders diagnostic tests and radiographic results. Formulates and manages patient treatment plans and outcomes.
  • Performs procedures, prescribes treatment, and signs prescriptions in accordance with institution and state requirements. Screens physician calls to educate patient/family on care and resources.
  • Performs as first or second assist on operative cases using fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
  • Manage pre-operative and post-operative patients in coordination with the attending physician and Fellows. An in-depth understanding of the pathophysiology of both cancer as well as surgical process and wound healing is necessary.
  • Provide patient education which requires good interpersonal skills and a working knowledge of urologic oncology.
  • Coordinate patient care with multidisciplinary team to include but not limited to Physician, Advanced Practice Providers, providers from other hospital services, in-patient and outpatient nurses, Case Managers, Social Workers, Physical Therapist, Pharmacists, Respiratory Therapists and other Allied Health team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION
  • Required: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.
    Master's Degree Accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), except for Physician Assistants who graduated from a PA program prior to 2013.

  • Required: MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas. Upon Hire and
  • Required: Clinical Privileges Must obtain and maintain relevant clinical privileges. Continued employment in this position at MD Anderson is contingent upon maintaining these privileges.

PREFERRED: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.

EXPERIENCE
Required: None.

Preferred: Inpatient experience. 2 years APP level experience; ACNP-BC or AGACNP for APRNS.
