Job Description

This Advanced Pharmacist role includes specialized practice areas such as Oncology, Pediatrics/Neonates, and Unit-Based services. Contribute to patient-centered care by optimizing medication therapy, identifying treatment issues, and ensuring adherence to clinical, regulatory, and institutional standards. The role also involves training, mentoring, and precepting pharmacy staff, students, and residents. Cross-training across specialty areas may be required to support operational excellence.

Specialty areas include but not limited to: Oncology/Infusion Center, Pediatrics/Neonates, Decentralized Roles (e.g., unit-based ED pharmacist) Proactively contributes to the decision-making process and/or the development of patient-centered care plans. Finds mechanisms to optimize medication usage. Participates in quality, safety and other project work related to the specialized area. Assists in the development of policy and procedures.

Oncology/Infusion
• Reviews and monitors patient plans (therapy and treatment) for appropriateness based on current clinical and institutional guidelines, as well as patient-specific criteria.
• Identifies treatment issues and medication misuse. • Assesses all medication orders to ensure they meet established standards and practice guidelines of Atlantic Health Cancer Center
• Advises clinicians on drug selection based on current clinical guidelines to optimize drug therapy based on patient specific considerations such as laboratory values and clinical condition?
• Adheres to safety requirements in the handling and preparation of chemotherapy and other hazardous agents according to current guidelines (USP 797, USP 800, ASHP, NIOSH)
• Participates in educational activities and answers drug information questions
• Participates in the training, education and mentoring of other pharmacists and technicians and precepting of pharmacy students and pharmacy residents
• Participates in quality, safety and other project work related to oncology service in the outpatient infusion setting

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

• Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy with PharmD required
• Current active registration and licensure with the State of New Jersey Board of Pharmacy required
• Works majority of time in a given specialty PLUS has more than 1 year of experience in a specialized area
  OR
• Works more than 1 year in a specialized area PLUS has PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency
  OR
• Has PGY-2 Pharmacy Residency in a specialized area

About the Team

Atlantic Health System Pharmacy Departments service multiple outpatient areas, including several infusion centers, retail pharmacy services, and health clinics. At Morristown Medical Center and Newton Medical Center we have full-service retail pharmacies. They provide prescription medication services to patients and the local community in a convenient location on the first floor of the hospital, inside the Corner Store Gift Shop at Morristown and behind the coffee shop at Newton adjacent to the main entrance. A convenient service provided in our retail pharmacies is having your prescriptions you receive at discharge filled and ready for pick-up before you leave to go home. That means the discharge process will be a little easier for you and your family or friends since there is no need to stop at your retail pharmacy on the way home. The Pharmacy Department also works with physicians and nurses to ensure that medications used at Atlantic Health System are safe and effective. Pharmacists are integrated into your care teams to provide real time medication information and help you get the most benefit from your medications.
