Full Job Description
We have multiple openings for postdoctoral researchers in our Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Processing Section. You will collaborate with a team of engineers and scientists who design and test microarchitected metamaterials and formulate related feedstocks. Specifically, you will develop design tools, additive manufacturing techniques, two-photon lithography fabrication methods, and/or microscale analysis methods for lattices with microscale features. These positions are within the Materials Engineering Division (MED) of the Engineering Directorate. This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work. You will • Conduct research and development in one or more of the following areas: architected materials, additive and advanced manufacturing, and microscale materials testing. Design, implement, and analyze techniques in one or more of these areas. • Organize, analyze, and present research data. • Contribute to and actively participate in the conception, design, and execution of research to address defined problems. • Pursue independent, yet complementary, research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists both within and outside the Laboratory. • Collaborate with others in a multidisciplinary team environment to accomplish research goals. • Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences, seminars, and/or technical meetings. • Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications • PhD in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, polymer engineering, materials science, or a related field. • Experience in one or more of the following areas: metamaterial design, additive manufacturing/3D printing, feedstock formulation and characterization, finite element analysis, and materials testing. • Demonstrated ability to serve as an innovative experimentalist with broad experience in experimental design, techniques, and execution. • Ability to develop independent research projects, as demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications. • Proficient verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and present and explain technical information. • Initiative, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment. Desired Qualifications • Experience with analytical and computational modeling and simulation, as well as data analysis. • Experience with materials characterization and mechanical testing, such as tensile and compression testing, three-point bending, rheometry, FTIR, DMA, DSC, and SEM/TEM. • Experience with programming languages such as LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python, and C/C++. Pay Range $122,028 - $143,328 Annually Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity. Additional Information #LI-Onsite Position Information This is a Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years, open to those who have been awarded a PhD at time of hire date.
