Description:

As an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP), you will assess emergency scenes and patients and may transport ill or injured individuals from emergency scenes and between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation. You will provide patient care by administering medications, using advanced life support (ALS) airway adjuncts, and delivering electrical therapy. You may also lead the ALS team in providing clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes. You will support the readiness of vehicles by ensuring ambulances and other transport units, including non-emergent transport (NET) vehicles, are properly stocked, maintained, and equipped in accordance with established standards. The working environment for an ACP is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. You will be required to travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations (e.g., backcountry), with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids. This role is also physically demanding. You must be able to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105 lbs while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment. You must be able to endure frequent simultaneous kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods. Additionally, you must stand and sit for extended periods, as well as bend, twist, side-carry up to 20 lbs in each hand, and assume awkward positions.

Required Qualifications:
Non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) CPR certification. Must hold a valid Class 4 Alberta Operator's Licence, or equivalent, and provide a five (5)-year driver abstract, current within six (6) months and with no more than six (6) demerits, prior to commencing work. Proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, verified by a certificate provided by the Lifemark organization, is required for applicants who do not already hold a clinical position within EHS (VESST, Clinical Educator, EMR, PCP, ACP, or Community Paramedic). The F.A.R.E. test must be completed no more than six (6) months prior to the date of the job offer. Candidates must be qualified to perform full operational duties as of the start date.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Successful applicants will be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector search, from a law enforcement agency, prior to their first day of work (CRC/VSS must be dated no more than 90 days prior to the date on the written offer letter and prior to the start date). Applicants are encouraged to seek a CRC/VSS as early on as possible during the selection process to avoid delays in their onboarding. Candidates must be qualified to perform full operational duties as of start date.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference is given to those with previous EMS experience in a metro, suburban, rural, or interfacility environment and in other areas of Health Care and Public Safety. Completion of additional post-secondary programs is considered an asset. Applicants must provide proof of program completion for any post-secondary education or training at the time of application for it to be considered during the selection process.
