The Physician Assistant or NP role is trained and licensed to assist the supervising physician by performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, collecting and organizing historical and physical data, and exercising a degree of independent judgment in determining appropriate treatments and dispositions. The PA/NP is responsible for written documentation of all clinical interactions in the patient's chart.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited PA or NP program
  • Physician Assistant license required
  • Medical training from an approved program
  • At least two years of experience as a Physician Assistant
  • Good knowledge of medical office software such as but not limited to Microsoft Word, Outlook, and medical practice software
  • Familiarity with EMR programs
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent documentation skills

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following
  • Patient evaluation by performing appropriate history and physical exams
  • Ordering laboratory, radiological and special studies
  • Performing diagnostic procedures such as, but not limited to, physical examination, phlebotomy, catheterization, joint injections and aspirations and administering of vaccines
  • Performing therapeutic procedures such as, but not limited to, suturing of wounds, foreign body removal, I&D of abscesses, reduction of fractures and dislocations, splinting, casting, and injections
  • Assisting the surgeon in the OR as designated
  • Reading and interpreting imaging studies and laboratory reports
  • Initiation of life-saving measures as needed
  • Diagnosing and treating minor illnesses of employees of EmergeOrtho, P.A.
  • Telephone contact with patients as appropriate.

Other
  • Involvement in QI and research programs.
  • Attendance at educational and department meetings.
  • Intermittent OR, UC, and other clinic coverage required.
