Job Description We have an opening for a
Planner and Coordinator/ Senior Planner and Coordinator to join our Additive Manufacturing group within the Manufacturing Engineering Section in MED. You will process all additive manufacturing requests coming in from various customers at LLNL. These requests include both polymer as well as metal powder bed technologies. You will maintain effective control of order entry through completion and delivery of components. You will be expected to give time and delivery estimates for manufactured components. You will be expected to identify and reconcile problems or potential problems by communicating with all MED shops and customers. You will be expected to apply planning and project management principles to contribute to and/or lead projects involving the manufacturing of additive components using existing and new manufacturing technologies. You will also be expected to contribute with the ongoing priorities of the Manufacturing Engineering Section in support of all the programs and develop proposals for future contributions to the success of program objectives. This position is in the Material Engineering Division (MED), within the Engineering Directorate.
This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.
This position will be filled at eitherlevel based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.
In this role, you will- Plan, coordinate, and direct activities for the additive manufacturing group. Oversee daily operations, making sure production cycles are met from part design to fabrication.
- Utilize Manufacturing Executing System (MES) for data entry, part tracking, and workload planning.
- Work a broad customer base to prioritize the manufacturing of additive components through multiple facilities.
- Monitor project schedules by tracking project progress and providing regular updates to supervisor and other stakeholders regarding milestones, plans and problems that could significantly affect costs or schedules.
- Provide technical direction and leadership to cross-disciplinary teams.
- Prepare supporting health and safety documentation that is aligned with the Integrated Safety Management (ISM) requirements and participate in design and Management Prestart Reviews.
- Evaluate print outcomes, troubleshoot process issues, and implement corrective actions.
- Represent the manufacturing team on technical and administrative reviews that assess moderately complex to complex projects involving the maintenance, relocation and purchase of additive manufacturing equipment or other laboratory equipment.
- Implement project interfaces with other organizations internal and external to the Laboratory.
- Assist in process development and parameter development for FDM and L-PBF Additive Manufacturing
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional job responsibilities at the 339.2 level- Provide leadership and/or subject matter expertise to team members and stakeholders.
- Collaborate independently with all levels of personnel internal and external to the Laboratory.
- Develop, validate, and implement new AM processes, parameter sets, and quality-control methods for difficult materials, high-precision components, or mission-critical applications.
Qualifications - This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing technology, or the equivalent combination of education and prior relevant experience.
- Experience in L-PBF, SLS, FDM, and/or SLA additive manufacturing.
- Experience with additive manufacturing software such as Materialize Magics, Stratasys Insight software, Autodesk Netfabb, Prusa slicer, and others.
- Understanding of additive manufacturing workflows, materials, and post-processing methods.
- Significant experience working in a machine shop and additive manufacturing environment.
- Significant experience planning and coordinating component manufacturing with a proven ability to apply these to both new and existing processes/equipment.
- Experience developing Design of Experiments (DoE) statistical studies.
- Ability to perform ANOVA analysis and use statistical software such as JMP or Minitab.
- Broad experience and comprehensive knowledge with project management or project planning experience including scope, schedule, cost, and quality.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team with effective organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical information and provide advice to management.
- Experience with procuring material, tooling and shop supplies, and services.
- Experience handling classified documents, parts, and removable electronic media.
Additional qualifications at the 339.2 level- Advanced understanding of additive manufacturing and modern manufacturing equipment.
- Experience leading, mentoring or managing a program/project team and/or workforce.
- Experience leading highly complex AM projects from concept through qualification and delivery, independently defining technical approach, scope, schedule, cost, risks, and manufacturing strategy.
- Experience mentoring and technically developing staff, including providing guidance on AM workflows, design reviews, process troubleshooting, statistical analysis, and quality practices.
Desired Qualifications- Experience with additive manufacturing of refractory metals.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar quality standards.
- Familiarity with LLNL ES&H and Security policies and procedures.
Pay Range$125,310 - $185,640 Annually
$125,310 - $153,444 Annually for the 337.1 level
$151,620 - $185,640 Annually for the 3396.2 level
This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage.
