About the Job

MedStar Medical Group Anesthesiology is seeking a dedicated and skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Acute Pain Service (APS) consulting team that goes between sister campuses, MedStar Union Memorial Hospital (MUMH) and MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital (MGSH). The NP will rotate between these two closely affiliated sites, fostering a well-rounded clinical experience while remaining part of a cohesive team.

As part of a cohesive and highly specialized APS team, the NP will play a vital role in advancing pain management practices while working closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and multidisciplinary care teams in a hospital setting. This role offers a high-impact clinical experience within a fast-paced, collaborative environment, serving a diverse patient population across a wide range of complex surgical services.

Position Overview

The Nurse Practitioner will function as a clinical consultant within a multidisciplinary team, managing both acute and chronic pain for hospitalized patients. Key responsibilities include:
  • Rounding daily on new and established patients
  • Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and perioperative evaluations
  • Performing histories and physicals (H&Ps), interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing care plans
  • Prescribing and managing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic pain treatments
  • Managing epidural and peripheral nerve catheters
  • Documenting clinical findings in progress notes
  • Educating patients and families on pain management strategies
  • Providing pain management education and serving as a clinical resource for healthcare team members across the institution


Position will include mandatory 6-8 weeks of initial, comprehensive training at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

Full-Time Schedule (1.0FTE): Monday - Friday, (5) 8s, daytime hours; no weeknights, weekend or on-call responsibilities.
