Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity located in Poway, CA as an Actuated Systems Engineer. In this position, you will lead development of actuated systems for aircraft flight control, deployment and utility systems. The GA-ASI's actuated systems consist of a wide array of control/deployment mechanisms and rotary and linear electro-mechanical actuators comprising BLDC Motor, gear train, ball screw, bearings, feedback devices, brakes, and other components. You will also collaborate with interdisciplinary functional teams including EE, Controls, Software, Flight Technologies, Landing Gear, and Aero Structures to ensure system level success. The Engineer will participate in Actuated system lifecycle development activities including requirements definition, design reviews, procurement/manufacturing, and qualification/certification. You will also perform trade studies of relevant technologies, devices and components. Additionally, you will provide product support for the GA-ASI's existing range of actuators and mechanisms.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Determines annual and multi year technical objectives for designated engineering systems or project(s)/program(s).
  • Represents the assigned systems or projects(s)/program(s) as a prime technical expert.
  • Act as expert consultant and advisor in identified area(s) of engineering.
  • Advises or directs the activities of assigned project(s)/program (s) to achieve technical objectives.
  • Directs and allocates technical resources and professional staff to achieve objectives.
  • Develops new and/or expands existing business opportunities.
  • Ensures compliance, reporting, and safety standards are maintained.
  • Participates in the planning, selection, retention, and development of the professional staff.
  • Publishes and present technical papers and abstracts and participate in internal and external technical program reviews.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, ten or more years of experience with a masters degree, or seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals; the capability of representing the organization as a prime technical contact; and, the ability to provide leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
  • Must be customer focused and able to work on a self- initiated basis or in a team environment and able to travel as required.
  • A Professional Engineering License, original work(s) published in professional engineering journals, invited to present one or more original works to an engineering symposium, and invited and/or participated on an engineering review panel are desirable.
  • Experience with bearing selection and sizing, motor selection and sizing and gear design and analysis preferred.
  • 3D CAD modeling, drawing generation and checking experience preferred.
  • Finite Element Analysis experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) preferred
  • Electromagnetic devices knowledge preferred.
  • Mechanism design experience preferred.
  • Hydraulic, electro-hydraulic and electro-hydrostatic actuation experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
