Pan-American Life Insurance (PALIG) is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to oversee accounting operations for our Accident & Health Special Markets business. In this role, you’ll own the period-end close process, lead third-party program accounting, and play a key role in audit, reporting, and strategic partnership management.
This is a highly visible role where you’ll collaborate cross-functionally and drive process improvements with our program partners. Ideal candidates to be located in the New Orleans, LA. area for a hybrid work arrangement but other qualified candidates will be considered.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Monthly Responsibilities:
- Lead monthly and period-end close processes for Special Markets
- Prepare and review journal entries, payment requests and oversee the accuracy of balance sheet reconciliations
- Ensure timely, accurate reporting and resolve discrepancies, changes or questions proactively
Coordinate & Partner with Third Party Partners:
- Serve as the primary accounting contact for third-party program partners
- Manage monthly data submissions and resolve accounting inquiries
- Build strong, trusted relationships to support ongoing business success
Audits & Due Diligence:
- Lead premium audits (on-site anddesk)
- Partner with compliance teams to coordinate audit execution
- Support due diligence efforts for new and existing programs
Quarterly & Annual Reporting:
- Prepare and oversee the captive reinsurer collateral calculations
- Lead contact for Special markets external audits requests
- Prepare any quarterly or annual reporting as needed
Develop & Lead a Team:
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff (Accountant I & II)
- Provide coaching, training, performance feedback, and development planning
- Ensure team alignment, accountability, and on-time delivery
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- 5+ years of accounting experience, audit, or related field
- 1+ years of experience managing or supervising team members
- Ability to travel about 15% to our MGU program partners (8-10 trips annually)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience leading audits and reconciling complex data
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
Preferred Experienced:
- Experience in insurance or program accounting
- CPA license
