The Accounting Manager is responsible for the leadership, management, and oversight of all accounting, financial reporting, treasury, fixed assets, accounts payable, month-end close, audits, taxes and internal controls for an acute care hospital system. This role ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), healthcare regulatory requirements, and organizational financial policies.

The position serves as a key business partner to the AVP of Finance, operational leaders, and executive team by providing accurate financial information, analysis, and recommendations that support strategic decision-making and financial performance improvement.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of GAAP and healthcare accounting practices.

Financial Accounting & Reporting
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes; including account reconciliation oversight.
  • Provide oversight over general accounting, fixed assets, other assets and liabilities, accounts payable, intercompany accounting, and equity investments.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, supporting schedules, and management reports.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts.
  • Maintain accounting policies and procedures consistent with GAAP.
  • Analyze variances and identify trends impacting financial performance.
  • Present financial results and key metrics to senior leadership
  • Coordinate preparation of financial reporting for Board and Board Stewardship Committees and external reporting to regulatory agencies, tax authorities, bondholders and rating agencies.

Treasury & Cash Management
  • Oversee cash management, banking relationships, and investment management and liquidity planning.Monitor debt compliance and financial covenants as applicable.
  • Review investment and cash flow reports for adherence to Investment Policy.
  • Oversee investment advisor relationships; coordinate investment transaction recommendations for senior leadership and oversee initiation and settlement of approved transactions.

Audit, Taxes & Internal Controls
  • Coordinate annual external financial statement audits and tax return preparation and filing.
  • Serve as primary liaison with external auditors and consultants.
  • Design and maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Support compliance initiatives, risk assessments, and internal audits.

Budgeting & Financial Planning
  • Assist in annual operating and capital budget preparation.
  • Support forecasting and long-range financial planning processes.
  • Analyze departmental financial performance and productivity metrics.
  • Provide recommendations to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.

Leadership & Staff Development
  • Leadership liaison with Information Technology, Human Resources and other departments for Accounting and Accounts Payable systems.
  • Direct and mentor accounting, accounts payable and treasury staff.
  • Establish performance expectations and development plans.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and teamwork.
  • Evaluate staffing needs and organizational structure within accounting functions.
