Full Job Description
Accounting Manager Why This Role Exists IES Holdings is at an inflection point. Our corporate accounting team manages the books for multiple corporate entities - spanning equity compensation, an equity investment portfolio, general license fees, real estate and rental operations, fixed assets, and lease accounting - and we've reached a point where we need dedicated leadership to own the corporate close. We're restructuring to separate corporate close management from our consolidations function, which frees our existing Accounting Manager to focus on multi-entity consolidation, intercompany elimination, and a broader digital transformation initiative. This new role steps in to run the corporate accounting engine: owning the close calendar, leading a small team of staff accountants, and being the first line of defense when complexity arises. We're a hard-working, low-drama team that moves fast and figures things out. If you want a predictable accounting role with comfortable lulls, this probably isn't it. If you want to build something, improve processes, and contribute to a digital transformation already underway, keep reading. Key Responsibilities Accounting Operations & Month-End Close • Own the monthly close calendar for corporate entities - set the timeline, track progress, and proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks before they compound • Review and approve journal entries and account reconciliations with an eye toward accuracy, completeness, and adherence to deadlines • Partner with the Director of Accounting to continuously improve close efficiency and standardization • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure adherence to established accounting policies and procedures • Serve as the day-to-day operational backbone of the close process, escalating to leadership when needed and jumping in when the work demands it Technical & Specialized Accounting • Oversee lease accounting in compliance with ASC 842 • Manage fixed asset accounting, capitalization policy, and depreciation schedules • Support accounting for equity investments and equity compensation • Manage accounting for our real estate entity, including rental income and related reconciliations • Apply technical accounting guidance within established company policies, flagging material issues with appropriate judgment Leadership & Team Development • Supervise and develop a small team of staff accountants, reviewing their work for quality, completeness, and timeliness • Build accountability into daily workflows through clear expectations and consistent follow-through • Support performance management and professional development in partnership with the Director of Accounting • Model the team culture: hardworking, collaborative, solutions-oriented Systems & Process Improvement • Identify and drive improvements to accounting workflows - we are actively moving away from manual, Excel-heavy processes • Support optimization initiatives within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) • Contribute to our Power BI reporting and analytics build-out • Participate as a knowledgeable accounting stakeholder in ongoing digital transformation initiatives • Bring ideas on how technology - including AI-assisted tools - can reduce manual effort and increase visibility Specific Qualifications Required • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance • CPA (or actively completing final requirements) • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience • Prior supervisory or team lead experience • Strong month-end close fundamentals and ability to manage a close calendar independently • Experience with lease accounting under ASC 842 • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills Preferred • Big Four or public accounting background • Master's degree in Accounting or related field • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) experience - strongly valued • Experience with financial reporting or consolidation platforms (e.g., OneStream, Hyperion, or similar) a plus • Power BI experience or interest in developing reporting and analytics capabilities • Experience with SOX compliance, internal controls documentation, or working in a public company environment - familiarity with what external auditors look for is a meaningful advantage here • Experience in a corporate or shared services accounting environment What We're Really Looking For Beyond the resume, the person who thrives here will bring: • A project management mindset - you don't just process transactions, you manage the workflow that produces them on time • Technical confidence - you can assess whether an issue is material and know when to escalate versus when to resolve it yourself • Nimbleness - our scope has grown in unexpected ways and will keep evolving; flexibility is essential • Systems curiosity - you're not threatened by new tools; you're energized by them • Candor and low ego - the team is collaborative and direct; we value substance over polish Growth Opportunity This role sits at the center of a deliberate organizational evolution. As IES's corporate accounting function matures - through an active digital transformation, expanded reporting capabilities, and continued company growth - the person in this seat has a clear path toward broader accounting leadership. We're building the team we need for the next chapter, and we want this hire to grow with it.
