Summary

The Accounting Manager / Assistant Controller is the hands-on owner of South Bay Solutions' daily accounting operations and financial close process. This position is accountable for accurate accounting records, timely financial reporting, general ledger integrity, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable performance, internal controls, and the accounting accuracy of inventory, work in process, manufacturing costs, and cost of sales.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Accounting Leadership and Financial Close
  • Own and complete the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, including close schedules, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure balance-sheet accounts are accurate, supported, and reconciled on time.
  • Prepare timely financial statements, departmental reports, and clear explanations of significant financial variances for management review.
  • Partner with the Vice President and Finance Manager to establish accounting priorities, reporting deadlines, and consistent financial controls.

Manufacturing, Inventory, and ERP Accounting
  • Own the accounting accuracy and reconciliation of raw material, WIP, finished goods, cost of sales, and related manufacturing transactions.
  • Review inventory adjustments, cycle-count results, and related manufacturing costs for proper accounting treatment.
  • Support the Vice President and Finance Manager by identifying, investigating, and documenting significant inventory, WIP, and manufacturing-cost variances and assisting with corrective actions related to accounting, ERP, and transaction-processing issues.

AP, AR, and Accounting Team Management
  • Lead and develop the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams, establishing clear responsibilities, deadlines, quality standards, and accountability.
  • Own AP and AR workflows, including payment controls, collections, cash application, customer and vendor account accuracy, and timely issue resolution.
  • Review and approve accounting work as required, maintain cross-training and backup coverage, and improve team efficiency and accuracy.

Controls, Compliance, and External Support
  • Establish, document, and enforce accounting procedures, approval controls, segregation of duties, and disciplined close processes.
  • Maintain fixed-asset records, depreciation schedules, prepaid expenses, accruals, bank and credit-card reconciliations, and other key accounting schedules.
  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for financial reviews, tax filings, insurance renewals, banking requests, and CPA or auditor requirements.
  • Support compliance activities including sales tax, property tax, 1099 reporting, and other required accounting filings.

Process Improvement and Business Support
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow reporting, and management analysis by providing reliable accounting data and schedules.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Purchasing, Planning, and other departments to improve transaction discipline and the quality of financial information.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.


Qualifications and Skills
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, general ledger accounting, financial statements, reconciliations, accruals, and internal controls.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a complete month-end and year-end close process.
  • Practical experience with inventory, WIP, cost of sales, and manufacturing accounting.
  • Ability to analyze accounting discrepancies, identify root causes, and implement effective corrections.
  • Proven ability to lead accounting staff, establish accountability, and improve processes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong experience with ERP systems; Epicor Kinetic experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.


Education / Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience, including responsibility for general ledger, close, and financial reporting.
  • At least 2-3 years of accounting leadership, supervisory, or team-management experience.
  • Accounting experience in a manufacturing, machining, or other inventory-based environment is strongly preferred.
  • CPA or CMA certification is preferred but not required.
  • Experience supporting financial reviews, audits, tax preparation, and external CPA requests is preferred.


Work Environment

This is an on-site leadership position supporting a manufacturing operation in Fremont, California.

Mon-Fri 8:30AM-5:00PM
