Academic Outreach Advocate to join the
Ta7lneẁás Education Department.
In this impactful role, you will walk alongside Squamish Nation youth and families, helping students overcome barriers, reconnect with their education, and achieve their academic goals. Working within an integrated educational team, you will provide culturally safe, strengths-based support that promotes educational success, personal wellness, and lifelong learning while honoring Squamish Nation values, culture, and community.
What You'll Do- Build trusted relationships with youth through outreach, mentorship, and ongoing support.
- Support school re-engagement and independent learning by providing academic guidance, resources, and advocacy.
- Collaborate with students to identify strengths, challenges, and goals while developing individualized support plans.
- Coordinate with schools, families, community partners, Squamish Nation departments, and ASA staff to support student success.
- Connect youth and families to wholistic supports that address academic, emotional, cultural, and social well-being.
- Guide youth through educational pathways and support successful transitions into adulthood, post-secondary education, employment, and training opportunities.
- Monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and communicate outcomes to the supervisor.
- Facilitate meetings and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen student support networks.
- Promote awareness of available educational resources, programs, and supports within the community.
- Contribute to department initiatives, team projects, and community engagement activities.
What We're Looking For- Bachelor's degree in Education, Student Counselling, or a related field, plus 2 to 3 years of experience supporting youth, students, or families in educational, counselling, outreach, or community settings.
- Experience working within educational systems, supporting vulnerable or at-risk youth, and navigating educational resources, programs, and community supports.
- Demonstrated commitment to Indigenous cultural safety, humility, lifelong learning, and empowering youth to achieve educational success.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, facilitation, organizational, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially and explain complex information clearly.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, databases, and internet-based applications; experience with large-scale databases and JD Edwards is an asset.
- Valid BC Class 4 or 5 Driver's License (Class 7N may be considered), with access to a reliable vehicle and appropriate insurance.
- Experience working in a First Nations environment is an asset
- Knowledge and understanding of Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw history, culture, customs, lands, and People.
Salary: $66,689-93,364
