Responsible for developing, integrating, and deploying autonomy and artificial intelligence algorithms for mission systems, supporting the technology development life cycle from requirements generation through development, integration, and testing, as well as research in some organizations.Develops, integrates, and implements algorithms to enable perception, motion/mission planning, controls, etc. functionality in LM products and platforms; Translates requirements and applies requirements to development code, integrating autonomy, AI or machine learning algorithms to LM products and platforms; Determines software methods to best acquire and execute knowledge; Implements algorithms into software to train systems to recognize patterns and perform specific functions; Responsible for various phases of developing and maintaining autonomy software from requirements generation, software design and development to integration, testing, troubleshooting and debugging, and implementation; Review test outcomes, conducts troubleshooting, and works to debug issues; Develops human-machine interface scenarios, breaking missions into tasks; Documents interface requirements and implements human-machine interfaces

The Skunk Works (Lockheed Martin Advanced Development Programs) is looking for world-class talent in Software Engineering to be a part of a team that will carry on our 80-year tradition-making history in advanced aircraft development. The vehicle management software team writes software for a wide range of aircraft subsystems that make an airplane fly. We are a highly innovative fast-paced team working developing modular and reusable software to support both our current platforms and the aircraft of the future.

This team is working on new development software where our team members get to work hands on from the lab to the aircraft in all stages of development, including design, code, integration, and lab and field test. We work on a wide range of technologies and give our team members the opportunity to drive their careers towards their area of interest. This position offers meaningful and exciting technical work spanning both software development and supporting integration and test for a multi-site team. You will be able to use this opportunity to learn from some of our most talented and senior engineers to grow into a subject matter expert to support both our current platforms and our platforms of the future.

YOUR IMPACT
You will be able to take your experience with embedded software, AI/ML capabilities, and avionics and use it to help develop software for a wide range of aircraft systems supporting both rapid prototyping efforts and deliverable software.

The responsibilities for this role will include:
  • Full software lifecycle development spanning across many avionics services, ground station development, and mission system software technologies
  • AI/ML model development
  • Supporting ground station development for manned and unmanned systems
  • Development of simulations to support software development
  • Interfacing with key software and systems engineers to define requirements for rapid prototypes
  • Participating in integration and test events
  • Define AI/ML project milestones, coordinate model-training timelines, and integrate deliverables into system-level schedules.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree or above from an accredited college in a relevant field of study; or equivalent experience
  • Experience with C and/or C++
  • Experience with Linux or RTOS (real-time operating systems) and associated development toolchains
  • Experience with the software development process in a team environment (peer reviews, unit testing, configuration management, defect tracking)

***Must be a US Citizen. This position is located at a facility that requires special access and a Secret clearance updated within the last 5 years to be considered.***

Travel up to 10% may be required.

  • Experience integrating hardware and software
  • Proficiency with one or more AI/ML frameworks
  • Experience in scripting languages (e.g. Python)
  • Experience with build environments and tools (make and CMake)
  • Experience using agile software development tools and methodologies (e.g. Git, GitLab, JIRA, Jenkins, Confluence, etc.)
  • Experience with networking protocols (e.g. IP, UDP, RTP, etc.)
  • Experience with hardware protocols (e.g. ARINC-429, RS-485, I2C, SPI, etc.)
  • Experience working with safety/flight critical software development processes (e.g. MIL-STD-516C, MIL-HDBK-1797, AC-17-01, DO-178)
  • Familiarity with safety-critical AI/ML development processes (e.g. DO-178 considerations for ML, model-based verification)
  • Experience with Modeling and Simulation (including familiarity with MATLAB)
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships and collaborate effectively with others
  • Strong decision-making and judgment skills


Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $81100.00 - $150500.00

  • Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.
  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
