The Position
Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. seeks an Electrical Engineer at its Tucson, AZ location.
Duties: Analyze system requirements, industry standards, and regulatory requirements to define technical product specifications. Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for design viability and scalability. Develop conceptual hardware designs based on performance, cost, power efficiency, thermal management, EMI/EMC compliance, reliability and manufacturability requirements and visualize designs using block diagrams, system architectures, and simulations. Refine initial concepts through simulation, prototyping, and design iterations to refine performance. Develop analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits based on system requirements, signal integrity, power efficiency, noise reduction, and thermal management goals, and select components that optimize performance and efficiency. Oversee manufacturing and assembly processes that adhere to design specifications and quality standards. Perform functional testing of product assemblies to verify circuit operation and component performance. Use lab equipment to debug and validate board functionality and identify and resolve issues in areas such as signal integrity, power delivery, and thermal performance. Ensure seamless integration of PCBs, power supplies, sensors, and embedded systems into the final product. Validate communication protocols, interface compatibility, and firmware-hardware interactions. Conduct EMI/EMC tests, power sequencing checks, and system-level performance assessments. Perform environmental stress tests in areas of temperature, humidity, and vibration to assess system durability. Ensure compliance with medical industry reliability standards and improve design robustness based on test results. Ensure product and components' compliance with technical regulatory standards, and industry safety regulations. Perform design for manufacturability and design for testability assessments to meet compliance standards. Identify and troubleshoot EMI/EMC failures. Implement filtering solutions to reduce noise and optimize PCB layout, grounding strategies, and enclosure shielding to minimize emissions. Perform change impact assessment, obsolescence engineering, PLM approval process and release.
Education and experience required: Bachelor's degree or foreign degree equivalent in Electrical Engineering or closely related field and 4 years of experience in the job offered or a closely related job.
Special Requirements: Specials Skills Requirement: Employer requires 4 years of experience in each of the following:
1. Design/development of Electro-mechanical Systems comprising of Power Management modules, High-Speed Digital Circuits, Printed Circuit Board Assemblies, Analog-to-Digital converters and Digital-to-Analog converters.
2. Compliance standards 60601-1 & 60601-2; system-level integration and verification; and Electro-Magnetic Interference Testing
3. Risk Management including failure mode and effects analysis
4. Altium, Linear Technologies Spice, and Silicon Expert
5. Peripheral communication protocols including Inter-Integrated Circuit, Serial Peripheral Interface, Universal Serial Bus, Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter, Recommended Standard 232, Recommended Standard 485 and Ethernet
May telecommute 2 days per week.

The expected annual salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position of Tucson, AZ is $128,898 to $141,400 per year. Actual pay within the range will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
